He has been gelded over the winter and returned over this course and distance recently, winning with a fair bit in hand. He was handed a seven-pound rise in the ratings after that success. However, I think this lightly raced runner can defy that hike and win again.

Trooper Bisdee was a prolific winner in the early part of last season and clearly can go well fresh so should not be inconvenienced by it being his first run and could go close in this contest.

Almuhit heads to Goodwood today after a solid second in a big-field handicap hurdle at Punchestown last month. He’s back on the Flat now and has shown he stays well, with previous wins over similar trips. Off a mark of 84 and with conditions to suit, he’s got a fair chance if he brings his recent form across.

Only 3-29 but one of those wins did come over course and distance, albeit nearly 3 years ago. That was also the last time he tasted success but he's been slipping down the weights as a result and showed plenty of promise on reappearance when 4th off this mark at Chelmsford. Any kind of step forward will surely put him firmly in the mix this afternoon.

TRITONIC hasn't been seen on the flat since last August and returns to this sphere reduced in the weights and down in grade as well. Now eight years old and hasn't found winning easy to come by, but maybe the drop in class is the tonic and he gets more competitive here. Hollie Doyle is another positive, and this price looks a few clicks higher than it should be.

They are returning this one back to the turf with an interesting jockey booking/change as they are dropping it down in class. A good value each way bet for the 4 places available.

Diamond Bay returned to action after a 165-day break to Goodwood three weeks ago, beating Sixpack by a nose. He has been upped another 4 lbs and is now being upped in trip. A chance is taken that he can follow up.

This well-bred gelding makes his debut for Gary Moore here, who won this race 3 years ago. The horse seems to fit the right age and ratings profile for this race, and the new trainer is arguably better at handling stayers than the previous trainer. The horse was sent off 10/3f last time out when fading a few furlongs out, but that could well have been down to the really bad ground. He races off the same mark here, and we are getting 16/1, so if you are prepared to write off that effort, then he looks very good value here.

His barren run continues as it's now been nearly 2 years since the last win. However, still operating 5lbs higher than the last winning mark. Improvements required, which is helped by a drop down in class.
