Irish raider. Three runs this year, solid form. He was a winner two starts back, the runner-up now rated 14lbs higher. He was a close runner-up three weeks ago, giving plenty of weight away to the first and third, both very useful 3yo runners, the third had come into the race on the back of a massive run at Royal Ascot. No youngsters in this handicap, strong jockey booking and he shouldn't be far away.

Bounced back to winning form in decisive fashion at Newmarket over ten furlongs last time out, quickening clear going away once fitted with headgear for the first time. The retained headgear and premier jockey booking signal major intent from a yard operating at a high strike rate. Today's contest promises an end-to-end gallop with four confirmed pace-setters drawn throughout, allowing him to settle smoothly off the lead before launching his effort. He remains well ahead of the handicapper based on his peak form.

Yabher has won over this course and distance. He has won 4 times from 10 races and has Tom Marquand back on board, who has won on him a couple of times. Should be up with the pace early.

Quai De Bethune was yet to be asked a question 2f out at York when he was badly hampered by another horse switching and squuezing him against the rails. He should be given another chance to shine on fast going.

A useful winner in France for Francis-Henri Graffard, and returned to something like that level for his current yard when finishing fourth in small-field Listed contests at this track (1½m, soft) and Newbury (1¼m, firm) on his last two starts. Now makes his handicap debut.

Liberty Lane is a dual Listed winner who previously won at this course and distance. He thrives on good ground and, despite a recent third-place finish, is well-suited by the 1m 2f trip and should return to form under K R Burke.

Runs all of his best races after a break and comes here after nearly five months off. Murphy booking is a positive, and well drawn. With the yard going well, he can go close.

​Jack Channon's six-year-old gelding is a proven course-and-distance winner who thoroughly relishes the unique test of Goodwood's undulating tracking layout. He comes into the opening Chesterfield Cup in fine heart, having hit the frame in three of his last four starts, including a eye-catching third over this distance last time out. Running off a very workable official mark of 94 with regular partner David Probert in the saddle, he possesses a ideal stalking style to track the early tempo and mount a serious each-way threat up the home straight.

Wide open start, and a chance on bottom weight here who gets an added claim. He's drawn well to get a good spot in a race that lacks overall pace, and he should get himself nice and forward as is his want generally. Lightly raced for his age, he looks on the upgrade despite that being a tough win last time. A 2lb rise could be lenient enough, and up in class he he finds himself at the other end of the weights here.

Tony Montana looks nicely treated on his current mark. He ran to form when beaten four lengths at York last time, and he's already proven over this trip, with the right sort of profile for 10f. He's a consistent handicapper who has placed in this class and at this mark before, and his course/distance record says York suits him well. He's not a straightforward win machine, but he tends to turn up and run his races well enough. Moore taking off 7 lb also.

Won at Chester last time. 3 lb higher here in a stronger race but is not without hope. Has an each way squeak
