The form here is rather ordinary, but for the favorite Nivelles Magic. She does, however, carry a welterweight, and others may go better. One which catches the eye is Jaminoz, who appears to be improving with each run.

Caught further back than ideal last time, with the step up in trip suiting. Surprisingly, back in trip here and the race may not be run to suit, but at the prices, worth taking a chance.

Highfield Comrade could surprise here. The gelding has some past form that suggests he can be competitive in this company, and a return to a more suitable trip might suit. With Jason Hart on board, he has a capable jockey to guide him. Recommended bet: Highfield Comrade to win @ 10.00

I've had my eye on this one since having his stable debut for the yard at Ponte last month, as it looked a good switch of stables. It looks like they have been biding their time, and I thought Mulrennan could have easily finished closer over an inadequate 1m here last time out. Now 5lb lower, and these extra three furlongs should suit. Stablemate Northfield Lake came from the same yard and ran his best race at the third time of asking, and hopefully, it is a similar case here.

Sidney Stratton is a 3-year-old gelding who showed some improved form when stepped up to 10f, posting a career-high RPR of 56. He makes his handicap debut for Micky Hammond off 55, with Aiden Brookes taking off 3lb. He is stepped up again today to 11f. In that race, he was at the rear, went modest fourth over 1f out, never dangerous (op 150/1, touched 125/1). Aiden Brookes retains the ride, and when that happens, a jockey who rode in the previous race is 31/273 wins between 10-17f, showing a healthy LSP of £26.83 and lands the odd big winner.

Lasswade is a 3-year-old gelding trained by Ed De Giles and is the outsider of the field. He remains unexposed with just four starts. He has an interesting backstory and a lovely pedigree for this grade. He is 2lb out of the handicap, which is offset by Rhys Elliott's 5lb claim, so runs off 40. He is out of a dam, Lucky Breeze, who won over 10f for William Knight at 66-1 and later moved to the Ed De Giles yard. She has borne seven foals, including Lasswade, of which five are individual winners posting RPR ranging from 58-81: Francisco Bay (2 wins), Kalamity Kitty (4 wins), Run Of Luck (3 wins), Lucky Draw (2 wins), and Private Bryan (1 win). All five winners were trained by Ed De Giles, and 3/5 were bred by Ed De Giles. What a success and a canny purchase of the dam! Lasswade can be forgiven for the latest run as he tailed off on handicap debut but got loose beforehand and would have needed the previous run after a 208-day absence. The trainer has done well with the family, and at 66-1, an each-way play is warranted off just 7st 11lb.
