Many slots fans are getting poor payouts or second-rate sites. Wrong choices cost you. I'll match you with the best games and platforms for your style, so you get better value and variety.

Slot provider giant NetEnt will be releasing the much-anticipated Gonzo’s Quest 2 slot on the 25th of September (2025). I spoke with Travis Grabau, Site Manager at Evolution, in a question-and-answer-style interview regarding the upcoming game and what to expect.

Like the original game (released in 2011), Gonzo’s Quest 2 will be available to play at all top slot sites in the UK. The Q&A looks at how the sequel differs from the original, new bonus features NetEnt has introduced, more Gonzo slots, the XXXtreme series, future releases and the possibility of Nolimit City’s xMechanics in NetEnt games.

Q: With the original game released in 2011, how come it has taken so long to release Gonzo’s Quest 2?

TG: “Gonzo has appeared in previous games, Gonzo’s Quest Megaways and Gonzo’s Gold amongst others. They were good evolutions of the original Gonzo’s Quest game, but did not really catch the epicness of what a Gonzo’s Quest 2 had to be. The game designer and the team had an awesome idea for both the mechanics and the visuals to really bring the game to the next level.”

Q: How does Gonzo’s Quest 2 differ from the original?

TG: “We didn’t want to wander too far away from the original. After all, Gonzo’s Quest is a modern-day classic in the slot world, that is still bringing the crowd after 14 years. We kept the essence of the predecessor with avalanches and the running multipliers that increase on every win.

Then pushed the limits by adding a new row on every win up to 8 rows. So that there are 2 ways of increasing the value in each win, with more symbols and higher multipliers. We added the Calamity Wild, Colossal Symbols and a Super Free Spins feature that can go nuts on top of the normal free spins.”

Q: Can you explain how the Calamity Wilds and Colossal Symbols work?

TG: “The Calamity Wild is a wild symbol and when it is a part of a win it triggers 3-6 random wilds to be added to the reels. The Colossal Symbols come in 3 different sizes, 2x2 3x3 and 4x4, and are exactly what they sounds like, massive symbols dropping in.

However, the kicker is when the Calamity Wild feature trigger the Colossal Symbols making them Colossal Wilds. The Colossal Bonus Symbol is your ticket into Super Free Spins feature.”

Q: Gonzo has featured in Gonzo’s Quest Megaways and Gonzo’s Gold: are there plans for more Gonzo slots?

TG”: I don’t think Gonzo is going anywhere soon. Players really gravitate to the games so he will for sure return sooner rather than later. When he does, we are pretty sure we will surprise you.”

Q: NetEnt has created ‘XXXtreme’ versions of a few classics: are there any plans to do this to Gonzo’s Quest?

TG: “The XXXtreme series, including Starburst XXXtreme, has been a great way to add new buy features and push the limits with some of our classic titles. That said we haven’t discussed a Gonzo’s Quest XXXtreme so far.”

Q: What can we expect from NetEnt in the next few months? Any releases we can get excited about?

"A new Dead or Alive slot will be released during the early parts of next year.”

TG: “There is a hell of a lot of good stuff coming this fall and next year. There are some cool new games on the roadmap as well as some classics that will get revamped.

In the near future, Dead West will be released, which is an awesome take on a Scatter Pays game that plays really well. Flock Me is another title that will be released later this year, a Cluster Pays game that has some massive potential. Speaking of massive potential, a new Dead or Alive slot will be released during the early parts of next year.”

Q: Finally, does NetEnt plan to incorporate xMechanics from Nolimit City into future releases?

TG: “Nolimit City has really carved out their niche of the slot world and the xMechanics are really fun to work with and they hit hard. With NLC in the same family, we have all the possibility to do it.

We are looking at ways to make each other better between all studios. It is unlikely for us to use xMechanics in the games. But don’t be surprised if you see some NetEnt-style twists on those kinds of ideas though.”
