With a Mayan/jungle/adventure theme, the Gonzo’s Quest 2: Return to El Dorado slot is the follow-up to Gonzo’s Quest, originally released in November 2011! Since then, sister company Red Tiger released Gonzo’s Quest Megaways in July 2020. Gonzo appearing in Gonzo’s Gold (October 2021) and Gonzo’ s daughter starred in Gonzita’s Quest (September 2022).
In this instalment, Gonzo stumbles upon a forgotten trail which leads to El Dorado’s greatest secret. Set deep in the jungle, graphically is has many similarities to the original game. With Gonzo standing to the left of the reels, the reels are set within stone columns with waterfalls and dense foliage all around. With a rhythmic drum plays as you spin the reels, it adds an air of mystery to proceedings.
On the reels, there are 4 Mayan-patterned animal symbols as well as 6 stone masks. The blue stone mask symbol pays the most with 1 x your total bet for 6 in combination. Random Wilds
Gonzo’s Quest 2 comes with a Calamity Wild. When part of a winning combination, the Random Wilds feature will be triggered. Before the grid expands and an avalanche takes place, the Calamity Wild randomly places 3 to 6 standard Wilds on the reels.
Colossal Symbols
Both high-value symbols and Scatters can appear on the reels as 2x2, 3x3 or even 4x4 colossal symbols. 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 colossal scatters will count as 2, 3 or 4 regular Scatters, respectively.
During the Random Wilds feature, colossal high-value symbols can transform into colossal Wilds with up to 2 colossal symbols transformed at any 1 time. Colossal symbols dramatically increase your chances of landing a winning combination or triggering the free spins.
Free Spins
When you see 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatters on successive reels (starting from the leftmost reel) during a base game spin, you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature, with 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins (respectively). Any expanded reels and increased multiplier from the base game will not be carried over though.

The Super Free Spins feature is activated when at least 1 triggering Scatter is a colossal Scatter. If the colossal scatter is 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4, the starting multiplier is 2x, 3x or 5x, respectively. The multiplier will then increase by 2, 3 or 5, respectively.
This also means the multiplier can increase to stupid levels! Once the multiplier reaches a certain level, it is carried forward to future free spins (meaning it doesn’t reset).

Expert Verdict
Gonzo’s Quest 2 adds new features/mechanics to the original seamlessly for up to 262,144 ways to win and 15,825 x bet max win potential.
When you fire up the Gonzo’s Quest 2 slot game, you can instantly see that NetEnt has kept true to the original release. With richer graphics and the same soundtrack (in the base game), it is much more immersive as there are moving parts. On the other hand, Gonzo appears much small than in the first outing but he’s just as animated as ever.
In terms of the bonus features, NetEnt has kept the Avalanche feature (which was first seen in Gonzo’s Quest). With continuous avalanches increasing the multiplier up to 5x, each avalanche/win also adds an extra row for more ways to win: there are up to 8 rows with 262,144 ways to win this time around.
Look out for the Calamity Wild as this adds up to 6 wilds on the reels, randomly. Colossal symbols can significantly help create winning combinations, especially if you trigger during the Random Wilds feature as colossal wilds will appear on the reels.
Then you have the Free Spins feature, where you begin with up to 20 free spins. Each win/avalanche adds an extra row for more ways to win. Whilst the configuration can only increase, the multiplier resets back to 2x once you don’t land a winning combination.
If you trigger it with a colossal scatter, you can begin with a 5x starting multiplier and +5 multiplier jumps. The multiplier doesn’t reset either in the Super Free Spins meaning it is a lot easier to play with higher multipliers!
All in all, the Gonzo’s Quest 2 slot is a good game: NetEnt has kept the original bonus features and added plenty of extras that tie in seamlessly.
