Foxium have been raising expectations for gameplay, audio-visual experience and math excellence in slot games. Thanks to an incredible mixture of creativity and experience, the team keep pushing the bar ever higher. Combining innovative game play, unique themes and modern graphics, it’s easy to recognise a Foxium game.

With their games available at the majority of UK slot sites, the interview with Dan Brown (Business Development Manager at Foxium) focuses on the upcoming Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage slot game.

Q: Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage follows on from Rome Fight for Gold Eternal Empire. From a design perspective, which core elements did you feel were important to maintain, and where did you look to introduce new creative ideas within the framework of the series?

DB: “From a design perspective, it really comes down to consistency. Rome Fight for Gold is a recognisable slot series built around established characters and a clearly defined setting, and preserving that identity was essential. Those foundations are what tie the series together, so we were careful not to disrupt them.

With Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage, the opportunity was to refine and expand within that framework rather than change direction. The tiger theme allowed us to add a stronger visual presence and more pronounced audio elements, helping this instalment stand apart while still feeling like a natural part of the series. The focus was on evolution, not reinvention, ensuring continuity across the games.”

Q: The game includes several bonus features that each offer a different gameplay format. How do you approach designing multiple bonus experiences so they feel distinct, while still fitting naturally within the overall game design?

DB: “When we design multiple bonus features, the main objective is making sure each one provides a dynamic gameplay experience which stands out and blends harmoniously into the game. Every feature needs its own role, but it also has to make sense within the wider structure.

We place a lot of emphasis on clarity. Each bonus is designed to be coherent, with mechanics that are clearly communicated and compatible with the base game. By keeping a shared visual language and familiar rules across features, we can introduce variety without making the experience feel fragmented or overly complex.”

Q: The Imperial Bonus Game is another key feature within the game. How does this bonus work, and how does it integrate with the wider game structure?

DB: “The Imperial Bonus Game is designed to bring several coin mechanics together within a single feature. As coins land on the reels, they are collected into their respective cups, forming the core structure of the bonus.

The eagle plays a central role in this process, as it collects coins from the reels regardless of their value. This interaction provides an additional way for the bonus to be activated, while keeping the feature closely connected to the main gameplay rather than feeling separate from it.”

Q: Can you explain the Tiger Rage meter, how it operates within the game, and what happens when it reaches its defined state?

DB: “Well, players can expect to feel the roar! The Tiger’s Rage meter is a new feature to the series which plays an interesting part in potential bonus rounds. As Tiger Drops appear in the base game they are collected into the Tiger’s Rage meter, contributing towards activating the Tiger’s Rage effect in the next bonus round played.

When active, the feature adds an additional higher coin value at random to an already landed coin, having the potential to double the amount of coins on the reels for some roaring wins. The cash value can be increased without changing the underlying Link&Win mechanics, allowing the feature to integrate smoothly with the game’s existing structure and appear during bonus rounds without disrupting the flow."

Q: Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage includes multiple jackpot features. From a development standpoint, how do you decide when a jackpot feature is an appropriate fit for a game’s overall design?

DB: “When deciding whether jackpot features are appropriate, we look at how well they fit within the game’s theme and mechanics. In the case of Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage, jackpots felt like a natural extension of the series and its structure.

Our focus isn’t on scale, but on integration. Each jackpot tier is designed to be clearly presented and logically connected to the rest of the game, ensuring it complements the existing features rather than dominating them. This helps maintain balance while staying true to the overall design.”

Q: The Rome Fight for Gold series has a distinctive visual identity rooted in ancient civilisation themes. How did the art and animation direction influence the overall tone of Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage?

DB: “Art and animation play a big role in shaping the tone of the game. For this release, the approach was refinement rather than dramatic change. The goal was to stay true to the established visual identity of the Rome Fight for Gold series while improving detail and cohesion across assets.

Every element was reviewed and adjusted where needed to strengthen the historical theme and visual assets. This allowed the game to feel more polished while remaining immediately recognisable within the series.”

Q: Looking ahead, what can you share about Foxium’s upcoming creative focus following the release of Rome Fight for Gold the Tiger’s Rage?

DB: “Looking ahead, our creative focus remains on developing new concepts while maintaining a clear and recognisable studio style. We continue to explore different themes and mechanics, applying what we’ve learned from previous releases to future projects.

Upcoming titles, including Bisonous Fever Ultra Link&Win reflect that approach, combining familiar structures with new ideas. Across all releases, the aim is to keep gameplay clear, well-paced, and consistent with the design principles we’ve established.”
