Watford have appointed Roy Hodgson as manager to try and help them stay up
After the dismissal of yet another manager yesterday in Claudio Ranieri, Watford have again got another new manager.
Bookmakers were giving odds of 1/20 for Roy Hodgson to be their new manager as soon as half an hour after Ranieri was sacked yesterday, so the deal may have been in the pipeline early.
Hodgson has been without a job since he left Crystal Palace in the Summer and at the time dismissed rumours of retiring.
This was the right thing for him to do, with just 8 months later the experience manager finding himself back in the Premier League.
Variety of Watford specials for the remainder of the season
Watford are 9/4 to stay up in the Premier League this season after a tough start to their campaign has seen them lose 14 times already.
They're the second lowest in terms of relegation odds in the league too, with Norwich the 1/5 favourites to be relegated.
Team | Odds of relegation | Probability |
---|---|---|
Norwich | 1/5 | 83.3% |
Watford | 1/3 | 75% |
Burnley | 4/7 | 63.6% |
Newcastle | 11/8 | 42.1% |
Everton | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Newcastle are still in the relegation zone at the minute, but they're 11/8 to be relegated this season, with Everton out to 5/1 after the sacking of Rafa Benitez.
Hodgson needs to hit ground running
With the Ranieri spell being so poor, with just 2 wins from 13 games, Roy Hodgson really needs to start well if the Hornets have any chance of staying up this season.
Bookies are remarkably still giving odds of Watford finishing in the top half, with odds of 250/1 for them to do so.
Watford are 12 points off the top half and have only had 14 points all season so it's no surprise that betting sites give just a 0.4% chance of it happening.
The 75% chance of Watford going down this season though will worry fans and the board alike and they'll be hoping that Hodgson comes in and performs miracles quickly.
