  • Bruce odds come in with bookmakers since defeat at the weekend
  • Mikel Arteta still favourite in the market at betting sites despite Arsenal's first league win of the season
  • Other manager's odds changed at bookies after the weekend's results

Steve Bruce odds tumbling after defeat against Man Utd

It was always going to be a difficult game for Newcastle United on Saturday. Away at Man United, a full Old Trafford and the comeback of Cristiano Ronaldo was the perfect combination for the Reds and the worst possible one for Newcastle. Losing 4-1, the fixture heaped even more misery on Steve Bruce's men who have only got 1 point so far this season.

Bruce himself has gone from 12/1 down to 13/2 to be the first manager to leave his post this season with betting sites and Newcastle fans are still not warming to Bruce one bit.

Mikel Arteta still favourite in the market

Despite Arsenal winning their first league game of the season at the weekend, beating Norwich 1-0, Mikel Arteta is still the 5/6 odds on favourite with bookmakers to be the first manager to leave his post. Arteta's odds have drifted ever so slightly from 4/6 that he was on Friday, but betting sites still think that the Spaniard will be the first managerial casualty of the season.

First manager to leave post Odds Probability
Mikel Arteta 5/6 54.5%
Xisco Munoz 9/2 18.2%
Steve Bruce 15/2 11.8%
Patrick Vieira 12/1 7.7%
Ralph Hasenhuttl 14/1 6.7%

Movement in the betting for other managers

Patrick Vieira's odds have drifted massively from 7/1 out to 12/1 with bookies to be the first manager to leave his post this season, with his Crystal Palace side soundly beating Tottenham 3-0 on Saturday. Vieira had been talked about to be one of the favourites in the market after a tricky start to the season. Palace have been trigger happy with manager's in the past too, with Frank de Boer an example of this after being sacked after losing his first 4 games as Palace boss back in 2017.

Xisco Munoz has also made a movement in the betting, being backed into 9/2 to be the first managerial loss with bookmakers after his Watford side lost at home to Wolves on Saturday. Watford are notorious for sacking manager's ever since their current ownership came in. With 10 managers in the last 7 years, it'd be no surprise if Munoz was the first manager to leave this season.
