Gavin Gunning is now the 4/5 favourite with bookies to become the permanent manager of Swindon
Current co-interim head coach Gavin Gunning is now the 4/5 favourite with bookies to be the next Swindon Town manager following the club's 5-0 victory against Grimsby last weekend.
Gunning's coaching badges may well harm his chances of getting the job permanently for a long period but the Swindon board could look to giving him the job on a permanent basis until the end of the season.
BetVictor say there's a 55% chance of Gunning becoming the permanent manager next with the club looking no closer to announcing who will take over the role left vacant after Scott Lindsey left to join Crawley Town.
Next Swindon Town Manager | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Gavin Gunning | 4/5 | 55.6% |
David Artell | 13/8 | 38.1% |
Paul Caddis | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Steve Morison | 14/1 | 6.7% |
Marc Bircham | 20/1 | 4.8% |
According to the latest odds it's a two horse race for the Swindon job between Gunning and David Artell with the next contender in the market after the pair Paul Caddis at 8/1.
It may well be that another couple of good performances for Swindon make the board confident in giving Gunning at least until the end of the season in charge of the team.
David Artell second favourite in the betting market at 13/8
Former Crewe manager David Artell is the second favourite to get the vacant Swindon Town job after a 'come and get me' plea earlier in the month.
Artell has experience of being promoted from League Two after impressing in his role as Crewe manager due to his style of football and management style.
“I’m definitely interested in the Swindon job and I think how they want to play and my philosophy are a good match," Artell said to The Real EFL.

Swindon 6th in League Two and are 5/1 to be promoted this season
Swindon Town have to be thinking about their promotion chances this season with the club currently sat in 6th place in the League Two table.
The league this year though is tight with just 6 points separating 6th place Swindon and 15th place Tranmere in the league table so all it takes is a couple of defeats to slide down the league.
Bookies though give Town a 5/1 chance of being promoted this year with the play-offs looking like the club's main opportunity of going up from the division this season.
