Bookies have made Steven Gerrard the 4/1 favourite to become the next Southampton manager with the pressure ramping up on current boss Nathan Jones.

Gerrard has been without a role since being sacked by Aston Villa back in October but that doesn't have seemed to have harmed his stock too much.

The latest odds from BetVictor say there's a 20% chance that Gerrard takes over at St Marys next up for the Saints.

Marcelo Gallardo has been linked with the Leeds job in the past week and he's also in the betting market for the Southampton role.

The rest of the candidates in the top 5 of the betting market all have previous Premier League experience with Mauricio Pochettino managing Southampton previously.

Current Southampton manager Nathan Jones is now as short as 8/13 to be the next Premier League manager to leave following a crazy fortnight.

Southampton have been in poor form since Jones took over and his comments in the press in the past couple of weeks have raised eyebrows amongst fans and pundits.

Last week Jones stated that he was one of the best managers in Europe and this week he made a bizarre anecdote around Welsh women.

"I could have stayed in a mining community, been a PE teacher and had a nice life, married a nice Welsh girl. Beautiful. I didn't. I want to test myself on every level," said Jones.
