Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl leads the betting odds to be the next Southampton manager

Betting odds are now offered on who will be the next Southampton manager after Russell Martin was sacked on Sunday night after their 5-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has now shortened into 6/4 favourite with bookmakers for the job after reports that some members of the Southampton board admire the manager.

Journalist Jack Rosser posted on X on Sunday evening that the Saints "admire" the German manager but he signed a long-term contract over the Summer which would mean a hefty compensation fee would be needed.

The latest betting odds though give an implied probability of 40% that it'll be Rohl who takes over the Saints next with Carlos Corberan and David Moyes following behind in the market.

Russell Martin sacked on Sunday evening after the Saints 5-0 home loss to Tottenham

Sunday evening saw Southampton finally dismiss Russell Martin as manager after weeks of him being in and around the top of the betting market.

The Saints were defeated 5-0 at home to Tottenham after conceding 5 in the first half and immediately after the game announced that they had parted ways with Martin.

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is now the betting favourite to be the next manager to go in the dreaded Sack Race after Martin and Gary O'Neil were sacked.

Southampton now heavy favourites to be relegated this season

Southampton remain the betting favourites to go down this season with their odds now tumbling down even further into 1/25 to be relegated.

The Saints sit 9 points off safety in the Premier League with Leicester in 17th on 14 points and it looks difficult for them to stay up this season.

Whoever comes in as Southampton manager has a near-impossible challenge on their hands to keep them up this season and they may already be looking towards next season which could well be in the Championship.
