Emma Paton leads the betting market to be the next lead presenter on Sky Sports Premier League

A new era of Sky Sports could be on the way next season with Kelly Cates becoming a new presenter on Match of the Day and potentially taking a step back from the main presenter role she currently has on Sky.

Now OLBG look at who could be the next presenter for the network's coverage of the Premier League with Emma Paton now evens favourite to move from Darts to Football going forward.

Paton has previously spoke of her desire to present football coverage at some point in her career and it could be a natural progression for her to stay within Sky and move over to football.

It may well be that Paton follows in Laura Woods footsteps after she replaced her on the Darts when Woods progressed to football coverage on Sky and other hosting duties.

Emma Paton is the early favourite to become Sky Sports Premier League's next lead presenter with Kelly Cates announced as one of three new presenter's on BBC's Match of the Day. Cates will remain with Sky but it may well be that the network steps up another presenter for their Premier League coverage going forward.

Kelly Cates will join Match of the Day next season alongside Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan

BBC confirmed a three-person replacement for Gary Lineker on Match of the Day last week after months of speculation after Lineker announced he would be stepping down from the role after 26 years.

Various rumours pointed at a straight one-person replacement for Lineker for the Match of the Day presenting role but ultimately the BBC have gone for Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan to present their flagship show.

Linker will carry on presenting the FA Cup and also the 2026 World Cup for the BBC before stepping back altogether from the network when that tournament wraps up.

Cates expected to stay on at Sky but lead presenter role may open up

Cates and David Jones are the current lead presenters for Sky's Premier League coverage with the pair taking it in turns to present the network's coverage.

Jones usually fronts Monday Night Football and Super Sunday with Cates also presenting Super Sunday games and Saturday Night Football.

Sky Sports currently say that Cates will stay on as presenter but it may well be that we see her less with Match of the Day presenting duties ramping up.

Reports in the Daily Mail say that Cates ironed out an agreement with Sky in recent weeks to stay on with them while also being on the BBC's Premier League coverage.
