Erik ten Hag now 4/5 favourite to be the first Premier League manager dismissed this season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has shortened back into favourite with the bookies to be the first Premier League manager to leave this season after his side lost once again at the weekend.

United were defeated 2-1 away to West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday after a controversial injury time penalty from Jarrod Bowen was described as "unjustice" by Ten Hag following the match.

The Red Devils arguably could have been 3 goals up at the break but ended up 1-0 down in the second half before a Casemiro equaliser saw them look set for a point but VAR then gave a penalty for Matthijs de Ligt's challenge on Danny Ings.

Ten Hag's side now sit in 14th place in the Premier League table and are already 7 points off the Top 4 as they look ahead to a tricky home game against Chelsea next weekend.

BetVictor now make Ten Hag odds on to be dismissed first in the league with his odds now at 4/5 to go as the managerial Sack Race is still without its first casualty.

Russell Martin follows behind after Southampton's 1-0 loss to Man City

Southampton boss Russell Martin had moved into favourite to leave his role first this season but his side's 1-0 loss away to Champions Manchester City will have actually strengthened his position.

Martin's team went to the Etihad still with that same style of play we've seen from them this season and managed to knock it around the pitch at times with ease against Pep Guardiola's men.

Only Erling Haaland's early goal was enough to split the two sides but both the Saints players and fans will have been happy with the performance that their side put in at the weekend.

Southampton though now sit rock bottom of the Premier League table and know that they need to start getting points quickly if they are to have any chance of staying up.

Ruud van Nistelrooy 9/4 favourite to replace Ten Hag if he was to leave

Elsewhere betting markets are being offered on who will be the next Manchester United manager if Erik ten Hag was to be dismissed by the United board this week.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is the current betting favourite to replace ten Hag after he joined the club as assistant manager in the summer with many thinking that this was with the main job in mind.

BetVictor's latest market puts Van Nistelrooy as the top to be the next United boss with three favourites in joint second place in Brentford's Thomas Frank, Middlesbrough's Michael Carrick and former England manager Gareth Southgate.
