  • Wes Streeting is 9/2 favourite to be next Labour leader.
  • Andy Burnham leads LabourList member poll with 57% top-three support.
  • Keir Starmer unlikely to step down soon, 6/4 to exit in 2029 or later.

Wes Streeting Tops Next Labour Leader Market, But Burnham Wins Over the Grassroots

Wes Streeting may lead bookmakers betting odds to become the next Labour Party leader at 9/2 with William Hill, but a recent LabourList members’ poll tells a different story.

While there’s no expectation of change at the top with Keir Starmer now Prime Minister, speculation on his eventual successor is mounting.

The poll shows Andy Burnham as the most popular choice among their members, with 57% of respondents placing him in their top three. He’s followed by Angela Rayner (47%) and Streeting (21%).

Burnham, currently serving as Mayor of Greater Manchester, is 16/1 in the betting offering an intriguing longshot for punters betting on a long-term transition within the party.

What the expert says...
Streeting’s odds show he's a frontrunner in Westminster circles, but Burnham’s grassroots appeal can’t be ignored. If Starmer’s long-term succession is member-driven, the odds on Andy Burnham look long and lively.

When Will Keir Starmer Step Down?

Although speculation about Starmer’s reign so far continues, bookmakers remain confident he'll serve a full term as Prime Minister.

The most likely scenario is a leadership exit in 2029 or later, which is priced at 6/4.

However, for those predicting a shorter tenure, 2026 (7/2) and 2025 (9/2) are both options on the board though less likely.
