Nigel Pearson is the 2/1 favourite to be the next Charlton manager

Betting is now available on who will be the next Charlton Athletic manager after Michael Appleton was dismissed and it's Nigel Pearson who is the favourite with bookmakers to get the job.

Nigel Pearson2/133.3%
Mark Bonner4/120.0%
Nathan Jones4/120.0%
Michael Duff5/116.7%

Pearson has been without a managerial job since he was sacked by Bristol City back in October and now could be the time for him to move into his next role.

Charlton currently sit in 16th place in the League One table but that leaves them just 4 points off the drop-zone in the table and pressure on the board to get the right appointment next.

Pearson's current odds with BetVictor suggest a 33% implied probability that he'll be the man to lead the Addicks next but it's unclear if that will be the case.

Other names in the betting market include Mark Bonner and Nathan Jones who are joint second favourites at 4/1 and they could well be contenders for the job.

What the expert says...

Nigel Pearson is the early favourite to take over at Charlton next with the board really needing to make the right appointment here with the threat of relegation now well and truly in the mix.

Michael Appleton sacked after 12-game winless run for the Addicks

Michael Appleton was sacked by Charlton on Tuesday night following the club's 3-2 loss at home to Northampton Town which was the 12th winless game for the Addicks.

The Addicks official confirmation of Appleton's sacking came just 30 minutes after the final whistle with the board clearly having the game as a make or break one.

Appleton only took charge in September after replacing Dean Holden in the managers position and just 5 months into his spell in charge he's seen himself sacked.

Charlton now 12/1 to be relegated from League One this season

Charlton sit just off points off the relegation zone in League Two after their poor run and that sees their odds slashed into 12/1 to go down this season.

There are a number of clubs above them in the betting market though with the Addicks current odds putting them as the joint 9th favourites to be relegated.

Fleetwood Town, Carlisle, Reading and Cheltenham are all odds-on to go down from League One and it may well be that it's those four teams who play in League Two next season.
