Brazilian writer Itamar Vieira Junior is now the 6/4 favourite to win the International Booker Prize

The International Booker Prize is set to be awarded next week and bookmakers continue to offer odds on who will win the famous prize with Brazilian Itamar Vieira Junior the favourite in the market.

Vieira Junior is nominated for his book Crooked Plow which has been translated from Portuguese by Johnny Lorenz who is an American translator and poet.

Crooked Plow leads the betting odds at 6/4 to win the International Booker Prize with the latest betting market suggesting a 40% implied chance of the book winning the prize this year.

Selva Almada's Not a River is the second favourite in the market with Ia Genberg's The Details rounding up the top three in the betting odds list in a competitive looking race for the award.

Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov was the winner of the 2023 International Booker Prize

2023's International Booker Prize was awarded to Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov with the book becoming the first Bulgarian language novel to win.

Last year's International Booker Prize was presented in a ceremony at Sky Garden, London, on May 23 2023 and nearly a year on we'll see this year's winner chosen.

The award is given to the best piece of work in international fiction with judges focusing not only on the original work but how the translator has captured the emotion of the translated piece too.

When will the International Booker Prize be awarded?

The 2024 International Booker Prize is set to take place from 7pm BST on Tuesday, 21 May.

This year's awards show will be held in Turbine Hall at London’s Tate Modern for the first time.

British YouTuber and author Jack Edwards will be the host of the show with the winner receiving £50,000 prize money divided equally with £25,000 for the author and £25,000 for the translator.
