What's so Special about Sweden and Finland?

The pair are the only two of eight Scandanavian/Nordic countries not in the treaty, so given the geography, speculation was bound to surface as to future considerations in the current climate.

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson last week dismissed the idea that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would drive Sweden into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, so that is one negative vote, although Finland, who share 830 miles of border with Russia has found President Sauli Niinisto claiming Finald will be reviewing its security policy to decide whether to join NATO.

5 years ago 19% of the Finnish Public would have voted to join NATO, as of this week, that figure has risen to 53%, something Prime Minister Sanna Marin will have to take into account with upcoming discussions

Tension is high in the area with Russia warning or retaliatory measures should membership of NATO be considered, and opinion is somewhat split in Sweden with some saying independent decisions should be plainly made while others are concerned with the timing of such decisions being inflammatory in the current climate.
