I break betting odds news as it happens, so you’re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Count Binface has shortened from 8/1 into 7/1 with BetVictor for the Clacton by-election after pledging to reboot SegaWorld in London
  • Reform remain overwhelming favourites at 1/14, leaving little doubt over how the market views the outcome
  • Laurence Fox and the Monster Raving Loony Party are both priced right out at 500/1, firmly in outsider territory

Binface Shortens On Unusual Campaign Pledge

Count Binface has moved from 8/1 into 7/1 with BetVictor for the Clacton by-election, and it's a shortening that's come off the back of one of the more memorable campaign pledges of the contest so far.

As is often the case with by-elections, the top UK betting sites tend to see a flurry of activity whenever a candidate generates genuine attention, and Binface's latest announcement appears to have done exactly that.

The move in the odds followed Binface pledging to reboot SegaWorld in London's Trocadero, reviving the iconic gaming venue and, in his words, bringing "Sonic The Hedgehog back in his prime."

It's the sort of eye-catching, nostalgia-driven pledge that tends to cut through in a crowded by-election campaign, and while it's unlikely to trouble the frontrunners in terms of actual vote share, it's clearly been enough to catch the attention of bettors and shift his price in from 8/1.

Clacton By-Election Latest Odds

Candidate/PartyOddsImplied Probability
Reform1/1493.3%
Count Binface7/112.5%
Laurence Fox500/10.2%
Monster Raving Loony Party500/10.2%

An implied probability of over 93% for Reform leaves little doubt about how the market views the eventual outcome, with Binface's shortened price still leaving him a distant second in terms of realistic chances.

A Familiar Face In British By-Elections

For those unfamiliar, Count Binface has become something of a fixture on the UK political scene in recent years, regularly standing in high-profile elections and by-elections with a mix of satirical policies and genuine campaigning energy.

His presence in Clacton continues that trend, and while few would seriously expect him to trouble the top of the ballot, his ability to generate headlines and shift betting markets shows he remains a genuinely popular protest vote option for many.

It might seem unusual that a pledge about reviving a gaming arcade can shift a candidate's odds in a serious political contest, but it speaks to how by-election betting often works in practice.

What the expert says...
You've got to love Binface. Reform were always going to be a shoo-in here at those kinds of prices, so there was never much value in that market. But a shortening like this off the back of a SegaWorld pledge is exactly the sort of thing that makes by-election betting fun.
