Why are Betfair best for high Stakes bets?
You can bet freely at HUGE levels without fear of rejections, restriction or account closure.
We looked at an EPL game between Tottenham and Liverpool, If you thought that a big game would end a draw and wanted to bet £1000, you could probably do so with most bookmakers but it would certainly flag your bookmaker account.
On the Betfair exchange, the draw is available to bet at the same price as the bookmakers for around £50,000
Try putting that across the counter in a betting shop or adding that stake to your online betslip and you’ll find trouble.
With the Betfair exchange it would simply take a moment, no questions asked.
Without a doubt, the best place to play high stakes betting on sport is at the Betfair Exchange.
If you’ve not used an exchange before, and want an explanation on how betting exchanges work, read our guide to exchange betting, or select an online bookmaker from those in the table.

High Stakes Betting Guide
If you are looking to bet at ‘high stakes’, fear not the claims that bookmakers do not accept them. It is the case that you may find restrictions in places but this article will explain why this is the case, how to avoid issues and where to bet.
Some will have you believe it is impossible to bet at high stakes and win without the ‘Dear John’ letter from the trading team saying they will no longer accept your bets based on a trader’s decision.
This is far from the case with normal betting activity, including winning and this article will explain why.
You will never be restricted on major events at betfair. They should always be the first port of call for high rollers.
One of the longest established bookmaking firms in the UK, not only do BetVictor offer the best odds on football and horse racing more often than any other online bookie, but they also have a good record of not restricting high staking, winning customers.
If you bet large stakes on sports betting then the chances are you are struggling to find a bookmaker that really wants your business. Maybe you have tried many and been knocked back, limited or even had your betting accounts closed? Bet Victor is your best bet.
Won't my account get closed first?
Our article on which bookmakers don't close or limit betting accounts looks at this area in more detail. That is well worth reading to look at areas such as which bookmakers accept large bets and the better bookmakers for high stakes punters.
Here we look at bookmakers which will appeal to those staking large amounts and betting regularly through their loyalty programmes.
Some of the biggest bets that bookmakers will lay are on American Sports and especially on the Superbowl each year.

What is a High Stakes bet?
Determination of high stakes is subjective of course. If a punter bets £1 per bet, then it could be claimed that £10 is a high stake. Likewise, a common £10 punter might consider £100 a high stake.
For the purpose of this article, we are going to consider a big bet anything from £200 up to the often laid bets of £10,000 and even more.
Think it’s impossible to bet at that level? Think again. Bookmakers, in general, would welcome anyone willing to gamble huge amounts of money for a number of reasons.
Never gamble more than you can afford to loseBeGambleAware
Why Would Bookmakers Accept Big Bets?
- There is a good chance you will lose and they will keep big amounts of money on losing bets
- Big bets help the bookmaker set the odds
- In some markets, there is enough money [liquidity] involved that it makes little difference to the book
- Gambling and winning are not easy.
Bookmakers set odds based on their perceived probability of an outcome. Then they add a small margin so that the odds you get are [possibly] less than the real probability.
This is the bookmakers' edge, and where they gain their profit. Much like buying a can of coke for 30p and selling it for 60p and an example. Every commercial entity is there to make a profit and this is how bookmakers attempt to do so.
Whereas a shop is guaranteed profit on a simple buy and sell basis, bookmakers are not. Sometimes what they sell makes a loss, but they also sell many items in a single transaction, which if managed effectively will guarantee a profit whatever the outcome.
If I Bet High Stakes does that make me a High Roller?
If you are betting on the casino, then this is where the term high roller generally applies, but hey, if you want to a be a sports betting high roller, then take the name.

Where to Bet With High Stakes
Contrary to common belief, finding a bookmaker that will take high stakes is not as difficult as you might be led to believe. Indeed, there are many places and ways to get big stakes bets on with very little trouble at all.
It is true that you will often see disgruntled punter claiming that accounts have been closed, or stakes limited by online bookmakers.
Usually cited as a ‘traders decision’, the restricted or closed punter will claim that they have won a few quid and can now only get pennies on a bet, or have had their online account closed altogether.
There are usually other associated reasons in addition to the simple fact that they have ‘won’
These can include but are not limited to
- Only ever betting when a promotion is offered
- Only ever betting on boosted odds
- Only ever betting when that bookmaker is best priced on an event or market
- Winning and withdrawing regularly at low stakes
- Betting on events that have a low possibility of levelling ‘the book’ when stakes are very high.
Bookies Don't Always Limit Winners
There is usually a good reason for restrictions and account closures
High Stakes and Promotions
Online bookmakers will constantly provide promotions, and many punters will bet exclusively when these promotions are offered and at no other time.
Whilst the bookmaker should stand by the offers being made, betting only on promotions and winning is a red flag and can get your account restricted.
If you are betting high stakes, bookmakers that do not have lots of promotions should be attractive options. There is only winning that can flag your account, and the absence of tons of odds boosts and promotions, probably means the overall odds are better anyway
High Stakes and Boosted Odds
Quite often if boosted odds are offered then there can be a stake cap which would be below the normal high staking gamblers requirement.
Again, odds boosts are promotions, so if you only bet when odds are boosted with high stakes, then it is likely your account will be noticed and if you win too often, then restricted.
Always taking best odds available
OK, this is another contentious one. Some bookmakers like BetVictor, for instance, are very good and generous in comparison with other bookmakers with odds on Football and Horse racing.
Of course, the high roller gambler, and high stakes player will want to be getting the best odds possible to ensure the biggest return as possible if the bet wins, however, if you use one bookie and only ever bet when they are best odds, this could lead to account restrictions later down the line. Online bookmakers know when they are best odds and it will be noted
Regular Withdrawals of Small Amounts
This one will not affect the high stakes punter as we are talking much smaller values. Another reason why an account will be limited and closed is if punters continuously deposit and withdraw. It is not uncommon for some people to do this daily, even multiple times a day. Each time a transaction is carried out with a debit or credit card, or an e-Wallet service, a charge is incurred by the bookmaker.
It may only be between a small percentage and up to 80p, but if you imagine, depositing and withdrawing the same £10 or £20 multiple times in a month, it is going to rack up some charge for the bookmaker.
This is often the case for smaller accounts to be closed and when claims of I only won £80 and got closed down. It is likely that £80 was earned in £5 increments and a withdrawal was made each and every time!

Maximum Win Limits Vary Depending on Events, Leagues and more
These can be lower than shown under certain circumstances.
For instance, the football maximum is for top tier football only, like the English Premier League.
If you were betting on Czech Republic Division 6 then a lower limit would apply.
Be sure you understand these maximum limit terms before betting with huge odds accumulators including teams from lower divisions and obscure leagues from around the world.
Bookies have payout limits to protect themselves from huge liabilities.
The most important thing to note about bookmaker payouts is they vary from bookmaker to bookmaker and from sport to sport.
Generally, the more high profile the sport or event, the bigger the payout limits will be.
If you are betting big stakes or at big odds, you need to be aware of the payment caps the bookies have in place. If you aren't aware you may end up winning less than you thought you would.
This article includes only selected bookmakers at this time but more are being added continuously. Here is a list of over 60 bookmakers currently available to investigate on OLBG
Read on to see payout limits by sport and bookmaker. Are you betting with the best for high payouts?
Understand the Maximum Odds and Payouts
When making your really big accumulators, be fully aware of the total odds and ensure you are staking the least amount you need to win the maximum payout.
It may be that if you can afford to put more on your stake, you can remove some selections and arguably make the bet easier to win.
There are many bookmakers you can choose from to bet online with. Over 70 listed in the betting sites list here on OLBG. Each has a review if you would like to learn more about a betting site before you bet.
What Happens If I Go Over The Maximum Bookie Payout?
Any winnings that you should be due that go over the maximum bookmaker payout for that sport or event are effectively lost.
This makes it extremely important to be aware of max bookie payouts.
You could be adding stakes to your bets that will return you no extra winnings.
If you lose you've lost more than you could have. If you win you just win the same amount (the max payout).
It's worth remembering that the maximum payouts are for bets settled in any given day on that sport or event.
You could (in theory) win the maximum payout for football and the maximum payout for horse racing from one bookie in a single day, you wouldn't just be capped by the biggest payout of the two.
Maximum Payout Examples
Millions nearly lost due to bookmaker payout limits
A woman from Cheshire very nearly had the ultimate example of this when placing an accumulator bet at Glorious Goodwood.
She ultimately won close to £250,000 but another part of her bet would have been set to return many millions of pounds. Although, the maximum that the bookmaker would have paid would have been one million.
You should always be aware of the maximum you can win when making up huge accumulator bets.
Picking 14 teams and landing them all is incredibly hard and it may be that the same bet could have been placed with 10 selections for the same maximum return.
Making the bet 14 and exceeding the payout maximum simply makes the exponential risk of losing the bet many many times higher for no extra reward.
£500,000 from 30 pence!
Another example is a shrewd punter from Staffordshire who landed a £500,000 win from an accumulator. The odds of the combined selections amassed to a huge 1,666,666/1
Had he stakes £1 on the bet he would have lost out on well over £1,000,000!
The bet included 15 predictions including the winners of all English football leagues, Scottish leagues, Rugby and Cricket events. It all rested on Bayern Munich to win the Champions league
The punter had staked just 30p on the bet ensuring a maximum £500,000 return, not exceeding the limit and leaving nothing at the bookies.
Had he bet any more than the 30 pence, or added any more selections, making it harder to get correct, he would have won no more than the half a million pounds he received due to the limits.
Maximum Payout Limits and Free Bets
You should already understand any welcome offer or free bet award where you have bonus funds to use may have win limitations placed upon them.
If you are using a free bet, or bonus funds to place a very speculative bet, ensure you understand the maximum that the bet will pay out.
We have a comprehensive list of all free bets currently available if you are considering opening a new bookmaker account online.
The terms and conditions and details of all maximum payout limits for each bookmaker will state that the levels in all of the table above are not applicable to bonus funds, free bets or promotions and to check the individual terms of the offer that is being used.
MAX Payout Limits are Based on Real Money Bets
Different rules will apply for stakes using free bets, bonuses or against promotion odds.
