How To Find The Best Online Bookmaker To Have An Account With
I don't think there is one answer to the question of who is the best online bookmaker?
However I feel you should have as many accounts as you can enabling you to get the best price for your selections.
I will run through my thoughts on the subject and explain which online bookmakers I use and why.
But I would say If you are new to betting please check out A Guide to Understanding Bookmakers & Full Explanation of Betting Odds.
Firstly, everyone has their own tastes, their own preferences, and betting style
The online bookmaker you choose will be very much dependent on many of these individual factors.
- You may make simple bets.
- You may look for the more diverse betting opportunities out there.
- You may look for arbitrage betting opportunities.
- You may be a trader.
One online bookmaker may be better than another for what you want to do.
The first advice is to try a few bookmakers before deciding on just one.
And if you can, test out a few.
Let's say you have two £5 bets a week, and on average one wins and one loses.
That is 104 bets with 52 winning.
The prices with your bookmaker were 3/1 of those 52 winning bets.
Your Profit at the end of the year from the winning bets would be £780.
If you had managed to get 4/1 for all those winning bets by having a bigger range of bookmakers to choose from the return would be £1040.
Personally I have quite a few accounts but in the main, I use five, of which three I use mostly, and for different reasons.
Online Bookmakers I use:
Betfair
I'll start with Betfair.
Quite simply, my view is, if you are serious about wanting to make a profit from betting, you should not be without a Betfair account.
Believe it or not, I was quite a late-comer to Betfair and only opened my account with them in about 2007.
I didn't know what I was missing.
My reason for not signing up was I had taken a look and didn't think I could understand how it worked.
Eventually, I spent some time going through the help section and the training site and have never looked back since.
I like Betfair for higher-priced horses and for their SP.
I have found through years I have yet to be able to outperform Betfair SP
Yes sometimes the SP is shorter than I might have advised, but in the long run, I am far better off.
I can't recommend it highly enough for runners that open in the market above 5/1.
When I ran my tipping service (Boooo!), with three years selections and results, I would have made a profit at Industry SP, and even more at my advised prices at Betfair SP, even deducting the commission due, I made several times as much.
I have used Betfair in conjunction with BetAngel in the past for pre-race trading on Horse-Racing.
This is a really fun way to use Betfair, although very much a skill of it's own.
Personally I think it is a much harder thing to do now than it was 3-4 years ago.
As such, I don't often employ this approach anymore.
I use Betfair for trading football and mostly pre-match bets on the goals markets.
Identifying a game where I think there will be early goals so I can trade out.
One thing that doesn't happen at Betfair either, YOU DON'T GET YOUR ACCOUNTS CLOSED DOWN!
And to an extent, your bets are only limited by the liquidity in the market at the price you require.
Betfair is an all-round brilliant option for the online bettor and no one should be without an account.

I have another very good bookmaker for football betting and I move onto them next.
BET365
Now, before anyone screams about the prices.
Yes I know, they are not always the best prices, but they offer:
- Huge range of betting markets.
- Easy to use.
- In-play betting
- Live Commentary
- Reliable bookie
I have never had a problem with Bet365 regarding staking, payout or any other issue.
Reliability is a huge part of in-play betting and I can not knock Bet365 in that regard.
For football betting, bet365 is my first choice.

PADDY POWER
I find Paddy Power a customer-friendly site.
What I use Paddy Power for mostly is there promotional offers and daft bet prices from time to time.
I love getting 10/1 for a 5/1 bet via one of the PP promotions
Their odds can be a bit on the tight side, so you have to weigh up freebies and promos v shorter prices.

I have
- Bet Victor
- Ladbrokes
- Coral
- Bwin
- William Hill
The latter I have not used since I had a rather tasty win, which they would only pay back onto the credit card I had last used to make a deposit.
Unfortunately, if I had taken this payment to the card, it would have left me four figures in credit on a credit card, not a situation I wanted but Willy Hills would not back down.
Effectively, I viewed the situation as winning four figures but being prevented from withdrawing it from my account.
