Bodorgan returns to action today after a seven-month break, stepping back in trip to 1m1f. His last run over 1m4f at Catterick didn’t go to plan, finishing well beaten. However, earlier efforts, including a narrow second at Haydock over 1m2f, suggest he has the ability to be competitive at this level. Now racing off a mark of 82, he could bounce back if the drop in distance suits.

Outpaced and suffered trouble in running last time, his first run for more than 7 months. Likely to come on for that run and steps up in trip here, which seems likely to suit.

Race 5 at Hamilton today is the Luddon Construction 50th Anniversary Celebrations Handicap (Class 4) for 4-year-olds and upwards over 1,843 m. The suggested wager is for the each way on the 4-year-old gelding Bamburgh from the Charlie Johnston yard, and will be ridden by Joe Fanning. This son of Zoffany has had three runs to date, all decent efforts, finishing well in all three. What has been evident is that the gelding has been crying out for further, which he gets served today with 4 furlongs further. He has to be respected here.

Freedom Day is worth a try at these odds. The handicapper pitched him in at 84, and he did manage a 3rd off that mark at Ripon 2 years ago. Several poor turf performances resulted in him finishing the season on 73. He then tried hurdles when totally unfancied. He had a turf prep run last month when again unfancied, all of which has resulted in him turning up today off 70, and an improved run is expected.
