Ado McGuinness is a very shrewd trainer who always seems to get a few winners at the Galway Festival. His Pierre Royal won a valuable €100,000 mile handicap at the Curragh by a length and a quarter on Irish Derby day in June off a mark of 82 and could have more improvement left in him. He goes into this off a nine lb higher mark, but the way he finished his race at the Curragh suggests he will relish the stiff finish here.

Relishes a step back up to a mile after staying on with purpose in high-grade seven-furlong handicaps, demonstrating that he is crying out for a stiffer test. Galway's grueling uphill finish, coupled with a predicted blistering early gallop, will severely test the field's endurance and favor a proven stayer arriving late. He is particularly effective when getting ease in the surface, and off his reduced handicap mark, he represents superb value against less proven rivals.

Won maiden and Irish Cambridgeshire really well for previous trainer before failing to stay 10f on final start for Dermot Weld. I'd picked this one out on debut for yard as had fancy entries and was declared as well as stablemate Far From Dandy who was bang in form and what a winner he was. Won easily as if could be a Group horse and it is hard to get that impression out of one's mind as he won easily from his stablemate. Jack Kearney back onboard and his claim is invaluable so despite being worse off with Far From Dandy here looks a far punt. Wasn't disgrace at Royal Ascot as ran well and looked sure to challenge in the Royal Hunt Cup but may of found the fast ground too quick as hung left late on to fade close home. Slower ground here will help and need to give him another chance given quality shown on stable debut. Up in the weights but obviously handles a big field and looks a fair EW punt. Form reads 0101010 so though looks in and out has been running in competitive races and can bounce back today.

Last years winner Dunum is 3lbs higher than his win last year but almost followed up under a 7lbs penalty so doesn't seem weighted out of things at a track he loves. 3 wins and 3 placed efforts from 6 runs at Galway, he comes here fresh but that's no bad thing as an 8yo and he's won in the past off breaks of 218 and 210 days. There doesn't look loads of pace on offer so he might again be able to dictate.

This horse has had some good results at Galway including a win over course and distance last summer. Fairly handicapped and up in trip from when last seen in May which should suit. Good jockey booking and the application of cheekpieces and tongue tie seems like a statement of intent.

Orandi looks a lively contender in the 6.45 at Galway. He won the Irish Lincolnshire in 2025 and now races from a mark 8lb lower than when finishing a close third in this very race last year, making him look well treated. A proven performer in big-field handicaps, if Robbie Colgan can get him into a good early position, Orandi has the class and course experience to go very close.

A seven time winner has won at listed level in 2024 and 2025 of ratings of 106, 107. Gets into this handicap off just 95 with jockey taking off 5 and first time cheekpieces.

At 50's surely Hilary McLoughlin's 9 year old Gelding HOWYOULIKETHAT is worth a small punt. This Son of REQUINTO hasn't won for a while but finished 5¼ length 6th in this last year at huge odds (80/1) off a mark of 97 was a valiant effort & now 84 with a further 5lbs taken thanks to Nicola Burns claim this charge doesn't look a total write-off. Happy to take a chance.
