Ed Walker has been in good form recently, and his Hafeet Alain loves soft going and racing at York. I had him onside when he won this race comfortably last season. He raced prominently that day, and I think he can overcome a 4lb higher mark with conditions in his favour. He has a good low draw in stall 4, which will allow Hector Crouch to gain a prominent position. Hafeet Alain is a fresh horse, having raced twice early this season before taking a summer break. He has run two good races since returning for an autumn campaign.

Topgear showed a telling turn of foot to go clear of the field off the front end over seven furlongs at Longchamp last month. The key to this horse was the drop in trip from a mile to seven furlongs on soft ground. Christopher Head has his string in great form and takes aim at this Group 2 with his Wootton Bassett colt.

James Ferguson's Kildare Legend is progressing well from race to race having started his racing career in May. He is by Sea the Stars and cost 250k as a yearling. Since his educational debut he has run good races to finish second before winning twice. He loved going out in trip to 1m4f at Doncaster where he quickened to reel in the leader and coast to a comfortable win. A 6lb hike in the ratings by the handicapper to a mark of 91 looks fair. This is a tougher test in a heritage handicap for our inform runner.
