Q: Retro Tapes and Retro Sweets were popular titles for Push Gaming. When did the idea to create another title in the series come about?
ML: “Since Retro Tapes launched in 2022, the series has built up a loyal following and cemented itself as a real staple of our portfolio alongside titles like Razor Shark and Wild Swarm. When the players are clearly having a great time, continuing the series isn't a tough decision – it's basically a gift.”
Q: What does Retroverse expand on from Retro Sweets and Retro Tapes?
ML: “Retroverse is an evolution of the series both thematically and mechanically. We’ve expanded the retro-inspired graphics with plenty more pixels and chip-tunes throughout, and the addition of new features like the Light Gun adds even more depth to the gameplay that made the previous titles noteworthy.”
Q: What lessons did you take from the previous ‘Retro’ titles when creating Retroverse?
ML: “As with most of the titles under the Push Originals banner, players love a wide variety of exciting bonus features and mechanics. We wanted players to feel like there's always something new waiting around the corner, and with Retroverse, I'm proud to say there really is.”
Q: What is the biggest feature innovation that Retroverse brings to the table?
ML: “For Retroverse, the biggest innovation is the inclusion of the Wild Mystery symbols. For the Wild Mystery symbols, we have expanded on the concept of the Wild Multipliers from Retro Sweets, allowing Wilds to transform into a number of different bonus symbols once they’ve achieved 3 or more symbol matches. These symbols can transform into Multipliers, Collectors, Magnets, or the Light Gun symbol; giving players an extra layer of anticipation to see what game-changing symbol the Wild Mystery will turn into that can change the entire landscape of an average spin.”
Q: What challenges were faced when creating Retroverse and how did you overcome them?
ML: “Whenever you create a new title that’s part of a series, it's a balancing act to ensure you innovate while still retaining what players loved from the previous titles. When creating Retroverse, we made sure that all of the new mechanics felt harmonious with what came before to create the perfect mixture of familiarity and new innovations.”
Q: What does the future look like for the ‘Retro’ series after Retroverse?
ML: “The innovations made in Retroverse felt like a natural evolution of the series, and we will continue to expand on it in new and exciting ways. Retroverse has been a particular highlight for us to produce, so we always relish the chance to return to the series with a fresh new coat of pixelated paint.”
