The Retroverse slot takes place on a 6x9 grid with Cluster Pays. Winning combinations are formed by landing clusters of 5 or more matching symbols, touching horizontally or vertically. You’ll pocket the top payout per symbol for 17 or more in a cluster, so there’s an opportunity to form multiple winning clusters on the grid.

The first thing you’ll notice is the synethesizer-style soundtrack which ties into the video game arcade hall setting. With a retro/80s feel, it instantly reminded me of my childhood as Space Invaders (a much simpler time!). The grid is encased on an arcade game cabinet with soft blues, greens and purples dominating the colour scheme.

On the grid, there are 6 main symbols: they are represented by 3 controllers and 3 gaming devices to tie into the retro feel. The red and orange gaming device symbols ares the best paying, awarding 250 x your total bet for 17 or more in a cluster.

Retroverse also comes with an Arcade Wild symbol: it substitutes for all paying symbols. Other symbols include the Scatter, Magnet, Light Gun, Multiplicator, Collector, Wild Mystery and Instant Prizes.

Retroverse Mobile

Despite the 80s/retro feel, Retroverse is compatible with mobile, tablet and desktop devices. Producing using HTML5 technology, you can play this homage to the past on iOS and Android smartphones, in Portrait Mode. The 6x9 grid setup works rather well on mobile devices too.

Retroverse comes with plenty of bonus features, including cascades, multiplier wilds, transforming Wild Mystery symbols, Instant Prize symbols, Magnets and Light Guns. There is also a Free Spins feature where you’ll benefit from even more extras including Collector and Multiplicator symbols.

Cascading Wins

As with the majority of Cluster Pays slots, a winning cluster leads to the Cascades feature. Winning symbols are removed from the grid with the remaining symbols dropping down into the empty grid positions. New symbols then drop in to give you another chance of landing a winning cluster. The process continues as long as you keep forming winning clusters.

Multiplier Wilds

As stated above, the Arcade Wild symbol substitutes for paying symbols. However, each Arcade Wild contains a multiplier from 1x to 10x. When an Arcade Wild is part of a cluster win, the multiplier is applied to the win.

If multiple Arcade Wilds are part of the same winning cluster, multipliers from each Arcade Wild are applied to the cluster win, one after the after. Also, the Arcade Wild remains in the same position and spins off the grid when no more cluster wins are formed. Finally, the multiplier value increases by 1 with each cluster win (up to 10x).

Wild Mystery Symbol

Look out for the Box Wild Mystery symbol. Substituting for paying symbols, it has 3 levels to achieve in the base game. The level is determined by the number of cluster wins it is part of.

When all levels are achieved, the Box Wild Mystery symbol can reveal an Arcade Wild with a multiplier from 2x to 10x, a Scatter symbol or a Magnet symbol. If the maximum number of Scatters appear on the grid, an Instant Prize symbol ranging from 25 to 500 x your total bet will appear instead.

Instant Prize Symbols

On the grid, there are Instant Prize symbols worth between 1 and 500 x your total bet. When Instant Prize symbols form a cluster of 5 or more, the total sum of all Instant Prize symbols is awarded.

Magnet Symbol

When the Magnet symbol lands, it randomly chooses 1 paying symbol. The Magnet symbol attracts all matching symbols on the grid to its position, creating a cluster win. It can also attract Instant Prize symbols when 4 or more appear on the grid. This applies to Arcade Wilds and Box Wild Mystery symbols, along with paying or Instant Prize symbols. Finally, the Magnet symbol transforms into the matching paying symbol or Instant Prize symbol when a cluster win is formed.

Light Gun Symbol

The Light Gun symbol randomly removes 2 paying symbol types from the grid. This allows for symbols to cascade in and increase your chances of winning clusters.

Free Spins

The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing 3 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the grid: 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatters results in 6, 8, 10 or 12 free spins, respectively.

When in, Box Wild Mystery, Arcade Wilds and Instant Prize symbols from the base game remain in position and carry over into the free spins. Each empty grid position spins through to award an Arcade Wild with multiplier up to 10x, Box Wild Mystery, Instant Prize, Magnet, Extra Spin or Blank symbol.

With Instant Prize symbols remaining in position, the Extra Spin symbol gives you 1 or 2 extra free spins before transforming into an Instant Prize symbol. Blank symbols are discarded and don’t pay out any prizes.

In the feature, the Box Wild Mystery symbol only opens if the winning cluster contains the number of Instant Prize symbols and Collector symbol indicated on the Box Wild Mystery symbol. If this is the case, it reveals an Instant Prize symbol up to 500 x bet, Arcade Wild with a multiplier up to 10x, Magnet, Multiplicator or Collector symbol.

The Collector symbol collects the values from all Instant Prize symbols when part of a cluster. The Instant Prize symbols are then removed from the grid with empty positions spinning through to reveal Arcade Wilds with multipliers, Box Wild Mystery, Instant Prize, Magnet, Multiplicator or Extra Spin symbols.

Finally, a Multiplicator symbol may be revealed by a Box Wild Mystery symbol or after a Collector Symbol action. The Multiplicator symbol multiplies the values of all adjacent Instant Prize and Collector symbols by 2x to 10x. Once this occurs, it transforms into a random Instant Prize symbol.

Finally, the feature ends when you run out of free spins or you fill the grid with symbols.

The Magnet symbol is important as it pulls symbols together to form winning clusters. The brand-new Box Wild Mystery symbol creates excitement as they can reveal a variety of symbols.

The action heats up in the Free Spins feature, where you can begin with up to 12 free spins. With Box Wild Mystery, Arcade Wilds and Instant Prize symbols  carrying through from the base game, Push Gaming has added Multiplicator and Collector symbols: the Collector will collect Instant Prize symbols that are part of the same cluster as well as spin through those positions for even more potential wins.
