- London is a 10/1 outsider, reflecting the capital’s warmer, less snow-prone microclimate
Will the UK See a White Christmas?
With just a month to go until December 25, betting sites have released their odds on snow falling on Christmas Day and Edinburgh Airport currently leads the market as the most likely location for a festive flurry this year.
The dream of a white Christmas is alive and well for punters across the UK, with Ladbrokes offering a special weather market on whether any snow will fall at official Met Office stations on the big day.
Current odds reflect both historical trends and early weather modelling, and for 2025, it's the northern cities dominating the betting.

What Counts as a White Christmas?
The Met Office has a very clear definition for an official white Christmas: just one single snowflake must be observed falling during the 24 hours of December 25 at one of its 300+ official observation points.
This definition has evolved over time.
In the past, it was limited to a handful of major city observation points but now automated stations across the UK count towards the result, widening the scope and increasing the potential for surprise results especially in the North and Scotland.
When Did the UK Last Have a White Christmas?
The last truly widespread white Christmas occurred in 2010, when snow was recorded falling at 19% of UK weather stations and more than 80% had snow on the ground.
It remains the gold standard in modern memory.
Since 2020, most years have seen at least some snow fall somewhere in the UK on Christmas Day but 2024 was an exception, with no recorded snow at all, according to the Met Office.
Weather models from long-range forecasters are currently predicting colder than average conditions for the UK heading into late December.
Edinburgh and Newcastle are trading at shorter odds than southern cities like London and Bristol, where the milder Atlantic air keeps temperatures above freezing.
