  • Marti Cifuentes heads betting at 5/1 despite recent sacking at Leicester
  • Will Still, Russell Martin and Garcia Pimienta also feature in the early market

Cifuentes Favourite After Gracia Resigns

Watford’s managerial merry-go-round has taken another spin as Javi Gracia resigns from his post after just three months in charge, following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea.

It was Gracia’s second stint at Vicarage Road and his departure leaves the Hornets sitting 10th in the Championship, four points off the play-off places.

Watford confirmed that Gracia met with owner Gino Pozzo after the loss and expressed that he no longer had the motivation to continue leading the squad.

The decision was accepted and the search for the next permanent Watford manager is now underway.

BetVictor now have early odds up for the managerial position at the Hornets.

Who Will Be the Next Watford Manager?

Marti Cifuentes has been installed as the early favourite at 5/1 with BetVictor, despite his own recent dismissal by Leicester City after just six months in charge.

Cifuentes was sacked with Leicester languishing in 14th, six points off the top six, following a 2-1 home loss to Oxford United.

Marti Cifuentes5/116.7%
Will Still6/114.3%
Russell Martin12/17.7%
Jose Rojo Martin12/17.7%
GarcĂa Pimienta14/16.7%

At 5/1, Cifuentes leads a wide-open market.

His links to Watford may be strengthened by the Pozzo family’s history of appointing Spanish-speaking coaches and their familiarity with the Spanish football landscape.

Familiar Names in the Mix

Further down the betting, Russell Martin features at 12/1, although he is unlikely to get back into management after his failure at Rangers.

Also priced at 12/1 is Jose Rojo Martin (commonly known as Pacheta), with GarcĂa Pimienta slightly further back at 14/1.

Watford’s track record under the Pozzo regime suggests they may act quickly and unpredictably with the club known for appointing managers on short-term cycles.

With a trip to promotion-chasing Hull City next, Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa will take interim charge.

What the expert says...
Watford’s managerial carousel continues, and while Cifuentes looks the obvious favourite, he’s just come off a sacking and that could be a red flag. Will Still might be the more progressive pick if they can convince him back into management after failure at Southampton.
