Colchester are looking for a new manager after sacking Matthew Etherington on New Year's Day following the 1-0 loss at home to Gillingham.

The U's currently sit five points above the relegation places in League Two after a run of eight defeats in nine games which has seen them slide down the table.

Elliott could be the man to turn things around and BetVictor's latest odds give him a 20% chance of being the man who takes over from Etherington next.

Paul Konchesky and Ross Embleton follow in the betting market as joint second favourites at 6/1 with Danny Cowley and Mark Bonner wrapping up the top five.

What the expert says...
Since July 2020, the U's have had six permanent managers, with their average number of games in charge just 27.

Matthew Etherington was sacked on Monday after the U's latest defeat

Matthew Etherington took over at Colchester United back in October after moving up from his youth coach position for an interim role before getting the job permanently in November.

Etherington's time in charge since taking over permanently has seen the U's win just one league game and their form has seen fans turn on him and the players.

Chairman Robbie Cowling has a big task on his hands now to get the right replacement with that five point gap between the U's and the relegation zone getting tighter week-by-week.
