Finland Join Israel as Joint Favourites

The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is beginning to take shape, and betting sites have seen major movement in the winner market this week, with Finland’s odds slashed from 12/1 to 5/1 following a surge in support for their entry.

Finland now sits level with Israel, who have been among the favourites since early markets opened.

The annual competition, now in its 70th edition, takes place in Vienna, Austria, on Saturday 16 May 2026, with semi-finals on 12 and 14 May.

Wiener Stadthalle will host the contest for the second time in just over a decade, and anticipation is growing despite escalating political tensions.

Bet365 are currently giving full odds on the winner of Eurovision with the market expected to change in the build up to the event.

Political Backdrop Clouds 2026 Contest

This year’s Eurovision will not be without controversy.

In recent weeks, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain have confirmed their withdrawal from the contest, citing Israel’s involvement amid rising geopolitical tensions.

While their absence will be noted, Israel remains firmly in the mix with bookmakers.

The country has won Eurovision four times and consistently performs well with televoters across Europe.

However, the host broadcaster ORF has confirmed it will not censor audience reaction during the live shows, including potential booing directed at Israel’s act, setting the stage for what may be a politically charged evening.

Sweden and Ukraine Among Consistent Contenders

Sweden, the record seven-time winners, remain 8/1 in the betting, while Ukraine, buoyed by strong diaspora voting and consistent support, also sit at 8/1.

Denmark and Belgium complete the top six in the market.

Italy, Greece, and Luxembourg. all with strong Eurovision pedigrees, are currently outsiders, but could come into contention once full performances are seen during rehearsals in Vienna.
