Keely Hodgkinson has now shortened into favourite to win Sports Personality of the Year ahead of the Olympics

Team GB's athletics star Keely Hodgkinson has been moved into favourite with UK Betting Sites to win the Sports Personality of the Year award later this year after winning the 800m at the London Diamond League at the weekend.

Hodgkinson cemented her status as the main contender for 800m Gold at the Paris Olympics by setting a massive personal best, British record and the best time in the world this year with a 1:54.61 in the race.

That time made her the sixth fastest woman in history in over 800m and instantly saw her odds slashed into favourite to win the Sports Personality of the Year award with bookies putting her at 11/4 in the market.

William Hill's odds give Hodgkinson a 26.7% implied probability of winning the award later this year and those odds will surely shorten even further if she wins the Gold Medal in Paris later this summer.

Former favourite Luke Littler drifts behind Hodgkinson after first round exit at the World Matchplay

17-year-old Darts sensation Luke Littler was instantly made favourite for the Sports Personality of the Year award after his stunning debut Darts World Championship tournament right at the start of the year saw him make the final.

Despite losing to Luke Humphries at Ally Pally, Littler has since kicked on further in his career and winning the Premier League Darts tournament earlier this year saw him sit at the shortest he's been yet.

Hodgkinson's performance at the London Diamond League though has now seen her move above Littler in the market with the Darts player now the 7/2 second favourite to win the award.

Olympics could play a massive part in the SPOTY voting this year

With this year being an Olympic year it's likely that we will see a whole host of stars from the games feature in the betting market in the coming weeks to win the SPOTY award.

Tom Daley and Adam Peaty came 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Emma Raducanu during the last Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 and we may see stars from the Games this time around feature again.

With England losing the Euro 2024 Final to Spain, the Cricket team not winning the T20 World Cup and no big English winners elsewhere it really is a wide-open race for the SPOTY award this year.
