  • Will Still sacked after just 5 months and 2 league wins
  • Russell Martin EVS favourite to become next Southampton manager
  • Hasenhuttl, Rodgers and Carrick all among top contenders

Southampton have parted ways with head coach Will Still just five months into his tenure, following a dismal run of form that leaves the Saints teetering near the Championship relegation zone.

The former Lens boss managed just two wins in 13 league games, and after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Preston, the club’s board acted swiftly.

UK Betting Sites have a whole host of names available in the next Southampton manager market, with some more familiar than others.

Saints now turn their attention to finding a new permanent manager to steer the club back on track.

BetVictor's early market puts former Saints manager Russell Martin as the evens favourite for the role with the club reportedly interested in his return.

Why Will Still Was Sacked

Southampton’s hierarchy confirmed Still’s departure following a run of five winless games in the league.

With just two wins from 13 Championship matches, the Saints sit 21st in the table, just above the drop zone.

In a club statement on Southampton's website, Group Technical Director Johannes Spors said: “Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results.

“Ultimately that process has taken longer than any of us would have liked. By making a change now we believe it gives us the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back up the league table."

Expert Insight

What the expert says...
Russell Martin had a good time in the Championship for for the Saints and it’s no surprise to see him installed as the early frontrunner. A return for Hasenhuttl would be sensational, but Martin’s availability makes him the pragmatic choice.
