The 2023 tournament will be the fifteenth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup after the 1973 tournament which was due to be the third instalment and scheduled to take place in Uruguay was cancelled.

Brazil will be looking for back-to-back victories in 2023 after winning in 2019 and repeating the feat they achieved in 2003 & 2007, a win would also move them to level with the Soviet Union on four gold medals.

2023 FIVB Volleyball Mens World Cup Preview

Brazil will head to Japan in 2023 looking to become the joint-most successful country at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup, they have three wins to their name and a fourth would tie them with the Soviet Unions record of four.

Those wins have all been recent too, after finishing in the bronze medal placing in both 1981 & 1995, Brazil picked up their first gold in 2003 and they return in 2007 to successfully defend their title too.

Dominant Brazil

During the 2019 tournament, Brazil went 11-0, during which they won 33 sets and only gave up 5, they record a total of seven 3-0 victories during the tournament on their way to winning gold!

In 2011, the best they could achieve was another bronze medal, in 2015 the tournament served as a qualification process for the 2016 Rio Olympics and because Brazil automatically qualified as the hosts, they did not take part,

However, they returned in 2019 and were once again successful picking up their third gold medal in a tournament where they went undefeated and if they win in 2023 it will be the second time they have won back-to-back tournaments.

FIVB Volleyball Mens World Cup Past Winners

Russia in 2011 with their second gold and the USA in 2015 also with their second gold are the only two countries of late to deny brazil. Both Poland and Italy have been unlucky losers, both of them picking up the silver medal twice within the last five tournaments.
