Q: Who will win Euro 2024?

AA: “In the last three or four years, a lot of big European teams have changed a lot. The generation has changed, especially Spain who don’t look as strong as they have been.

“Germany have a chance playing at home, England have a lot of fans in Georgia, but maybe they are missing that winning mentality to win the tournament.

“In my opinion, France and Portugal are looking stronger than others, I don't think we see a champion of Europe that we haven’t seen before.

“With Portugal, they won it in 2016 and they still have good players, they still have Cristiano Ronaldo and he looks good. The Saudi Pro League isn’t as strong as the top European leagues but he is driven to show he is better than Lionel Messi.

“As a team they have enough good players to be in the final, but France have Kylian Mbappe who is the best player in Europe and the team have shown they are good enough to win.

“For me, it will be between Portugal and France.”

Q: Who will win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024?

AA: “I think Harry Kane has a very good chance to win the Golden Boot

“Of course it will be difficult for him to be the top scorer if England don’t reach the final, but as we saw in Bayern, he had a very good season and scored a lot of goals.

“I think it could be between Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane, but mostly I think Mbappe because he's young, he is strong, he's fast, it's unbelievable.”

Q: Who will win the Golden Ball at Euro 2024?

AA: “For defenders and midfielders to be the best player at Euro 2023 is very difficult because everyone looks at who is scoring the most goals.

“You also have to reach the final as a minimum and I think England have a chance. It could be Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham or Phil Foden who are all fantastic.

“If I had to pick I would say Jude Belliingham, we saw him score 23 goals in his debut season at Real Madrid even though he wasn’t playing as an out and out striker.

“Elsewhere, I don’t think that Cristiano Ronaldo could win it, it will be very difficult at 38 years old, but you never know with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I hope it will be our Georgian, Khvicha Kvraratskhelia. It's his first big tournament, but he has played at the top level in Italy and has shown how good he is with two fantastic seasons.

“Napoli were not good enough this year, but he had a really good season. I hope he will have three good games in the group and go from there.”

Q: Who are Dark Horses at Euro 2024?

AA: “For dark horses you need to look at the middle level of teams like Hungary and Poland, but I think that Austria look very good.“

Q: How will Georgia do at Euro 2024?

AA: “Georgia are at the Euros for the first time and it will be very difficult. I just want to have moments in games where he can jump up and down and celebrate.

“I will be delighted if we get out of the group and I think we will only need to win one game to do it.”

Q: What are your predictions for Georgia’s games at Euro 2024?

AA: “I think Georgia’s best chance to win is against Turkey in the first game, the hardest game will be the last fixture against Portugal.

“Even if Portugal have won their first two, Cristiano Ronaldo will want to score three, four or five against us because he never stops. They might also play fresh players who want to impress.

“With the Czech Republic, they're always strong and always very physical. Maybe they don't have a special player like in previous generations, but they are always strong.

“For Georgia, a point is the minimum against Turkey and then we need to beat the Czech Republic because Portugal will be too tough.”

Q: Who could star for Georgia at Euro 2024?

AA: “Georgia now have quite good strikers, one of which being Georges Mikautadze who joined Ajax for £17m last year and scored 13 goals in 20 games on loan at Metz last season.

“He's strong and fast and could score lots of goals for Georgia. The other is of course Kvraratskhelia, we have other good players in Giorgi Chakvetadze from Watford and Budu Zivzivadze who plays in Germany.

“I have to mention Otar Kiteishvili, who was the player of the season in Austria, he’s a really good player, looks like a Georgian Andreas Iniesta.

“He's good on the ball, and scores a minimum of 10 goals a season, he’s a very good midfielder. We also have a very good goalkeeper in Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili who has done so well in Spain.

“For me success will be if we score even one or two goals, play good games and get this adrenaline from the tournament, that will make me happy.”

Q: What do you think of Georgia’s new kit?

AA: “I love the red and white of the Georgia kit, the dark kits are not for me. In my generation the kits were darker but it was a bad time, we were at war.

“Now that has changed and the mentality has chances, the red and white colours bring happiness and you’ll see plenty of flags in Germany.

“I think the stadiums will be full of Georgian fans wearing out colours.”

Q: What can we expect from Georgia fans in Germany?

AA: “Us Georgian fans are emotional people, but the mentality has changed in a good way. I remember us losing to an incredible Germany side 2-0 and it felt in Georgia as if we had lost 7-0.

“Then recently we lost 7-1 to Spain and nothing was thrown onto the pitch, the fans even applauded Spain so we have grown up in that sense.

“In my time they destroyed all the buses and hotels when we lost badly but now they know how important it is to support the team and get behind the players.

“Losing is like having a mum who is getting very old, she's still your mom, it's still your country, it's still your shirt, it's still your flag.”

Arvil Arveladze Interview May 2024

Speaking exclusively to OLBG, former international striker Archil Arveladze has tipped Arsenal as being the best destination for Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The ex-Georgia striker has backed the forward to compete for the player of the tournament crown at Euro 2024 and have a minimum value of £100 million.

The former Trabzonspor forward has also backed Jose Mourinho to bring something special to Turkey after agreeing a deal to become the new manager of Fenerbahce.

Q: Will Khvicha Kvaratskhelia end up in the Premier League?

AA: “It is the dream of all Georgians for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to move to the Premier League. Looking at the Premier League, it could be one of six top teams.

“He could also end up at PSG or Bayern Munich, but it’s not quite as realistic because Napoli want £100 million for him.

“He wouldn’t play for anyone else in Italy due to the price as well as his relationship with the fans.

“The only teams that can pay the money are Premier League teams and I think he would be very happy at Arsenal. He would suit their style of play.

“They play offensive football and that would please him, he is a great player and importantly a good man as well. It’s tough playing in England with the league, Europe and two cups but he is strong enough to do it. He is a professional.”

Q: Is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia one of the best players at the tournament?

AA: “If you look at the best attacking players at the tournament, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is on the list.

“When Georgia have Kvaratskhelia and when Georgia don't have Kvaratskhelia, they are two very different teams.

“Three or four million Georgians look at him and expect something special and I think he will be our best player in the three group games even though he has this pressure on him.”

Q: Is Jose Mourinho in for a shock in Turkey?

AA: “It will be interesting to see how Jose Mourinho does after signing the contract with Fenerbahce because it is an emotional country and league.

“It's not a problem for me to say that Fenerbahce are the biggest club in Turkey. You have Galatasaray and Besiktas of course but Fenerbahce is different.

“Galatasaray have had more success than Fenerbahce in European Cups but I think Mourinho will bring them something special, something more.

“It won’t be the same as Porto, Manchester United or Real Madrid, he will feel how special it is in Turkey and in Istanbul, it is one of the greatest cities in the world.”
