5:25 York Tips

The 4yo progressed nicely last year, winning 2 of his last 3 runs in 2024. He was a good 3rd of 13 on his return last month after a 7 month break - high RPR rating posted - and can take another step forward. He was a nice 4L winner on fast ground last year.

Unexposed and beat a fancied rival LTO at Redcar on handicap debut over 10f. Just 4 lbs higher here, and if staying the extra distance, must have a big chance as right end of weights.

Great Bedwyn is a horse who has outrun his odds both times he has run at York, which is a track that doesn't suit a lot of horses. He also seems to go well first time out and his trainer Richard Hannon is operating at a very good strike rate considering the number of runners he has.

The model I run suggests each way on Masekela is the best way to play this. Lines up with the joint highest RPR of the field and goes out carrying the lowest weight for this 1m 3f trip. Longer distance should make the weight differential more prominent. Last ran 10 days ago, so has race fitness and draw 7 isn't amazing but matters less over this distance.

Ey Up Its The Boss is a stalwart of the northern racing circuit and has put up some decent displays here. This is the first time he is upped to 12 furlongs and this may bring about some improvement. Good to Firm is his best surface and has won previously on his 3rd run of the season. His OR is currently 79 which gives him a great chance.

Has the advantage of being the only C&D winner in this field and in good form (3211). Not surprised the mark remains unchanged as he has bags of ability, so should be a contender.

Trainer Richard Fahey is respected at local York racecourse. Glistening Nights looked progressive last season. Four wins last year, all at ten furlongs, as handicap mark rose. Not the only one of these to try a new trip. Damsire is Sea the Stars so some chance the 4yo will stay. Clearly has a bit of ability (four wins from sixteen turf outings) and decent handicap chance - carries 9 stone. Oisin Orr (SR 15%) rides.

Can't resist a long shot in the last race. First run in nearly a year, but had a good spell last year, including a win here at York in July.
