The 2-year-old made a strong debut by finishing as the runner-up in a York maiden over this distance 5 weeks ago, appearing to be a worthy competitor against the winner until perhaps fatigue and inexperience caught up with him towards the end. With that race now behind him, he is certain to improve, and with Kevin Stott aboard, he stands a great chance of achieving success on his second attempt.

Two starts for the 2yo colt, runner-up twice. Going close on his debut behind a winner who has since run a big race in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot. He was 2nd of 10 three weeks ago in a useful looking £15K novice stakes, despite losing two shoes that day. He looks like the one they have to beat in this maiden stakes.

Was just over four lengths behind Dodge City on debut but that one did have the benefit of a run and my fancy can improve on that initial effort here. The reason I like this one is that I actually fancied him on debut and is the fourth foal produced by dam to see the track. Spookily enough all the other three improved for their debuts and won on their second start. Would love to think this one can do the same for shrewd yard and did show up for a long way on first visit to the track for a race. Be interesting to see if can follow in sibling's footsteps and slight drop in trip can suit.

Cape Ashizuri is a 2-year-old colt trained by John & Sean Quinn. He is out of an unraced dam and is the seventh foal related to six individual winners, four of which won group and listed pattern races. Unicorn Lion, RPR 122, won on debut. The Wow Signal, RPR, trained by J Stack, was a top-class 2-year-old, winning his first three 2-year-old races, which included the Coventry Stakes and Prix Morny. Miss Infinity, RPR 106, won three races as a 2-year-old and won at Ayr. Matrika, trained by A P O'Brien, was 1-2-1 as a 2-year-old, winning a Group 2 at the Curragh. So, Cape Ashizuri has a beautiful pedigree, and while he may lack racecourse experience, the 12-1 is too hard to ignore and could be absolutely anything and whatever happens today he surely will make his presence felt in the near future.
