Principal Charity Classic Tips

Ernie Els is simply a favorite of mine, and he has been awesome in the Senior Tour. I like his chances to continue and be at least in the top 5.

Angel has been rolling back the years, winning two majors on the Seniors Tour and playing some stunning golf. He could win three in a row.

Stephen Ames did have a streak of three consecutive top ten finishes in a senior major before his withdrawal in the third round of last week's Senior PGA Championship. He loves playing the Principal Charity Classic, and with less pressure on his shoulders, he can aim to equal the senior great Jay Haas, who has won this competition on three occasions (2007, 2008, and 2012), with Ames winning this competition in both 2021 and 2023. Maybe another odd number is the lucky charm for the three-peat? His driving is solid, and he is hitting the greens with excellent proficiency this year. Young gun Aussie Steve Allan is a whippersnapper at the tender age of 51 years and looks to have a bright future ahead of him on tour within his golden years. He has good form at the par 72 course at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa, finishing tied for 12th here last year. He also has great form this year, winning the Galleri Classic and tying for 4th in the Insperity Invitational at the beginning of May. Odds of 60/1 each way look a steal of a price for me, GREAT VALUE!

I will take a leap of faith for young 51-year-old Heath Slocum. He finished 56th and cut in the last two senior majors but managed to earn a top-five finish in the Chubb Classic back in mid-February. He did well on this course last year, finishing in a tie for 6th place with three very solid rounds of golf. With 'youth' on his side and decent course form, he looks worth the risk at a juicy 175/1 each way price this week.
