2024 American Oaks Preview
The Grade I American Oaks is a race that is restricted to three-year-old fillies like the Oaks run in Europe and is contested over a distance of one and one-quarter miles. The race takes place just after Christmas with the Grade I La Brea Stakes and Malibu Stakes featuring on the same card as this race.
Inaugurated in 2002, the race was initially held at the now-closed Hollywood Park racetrack, upon its closure after the 2013 renewal, the race was moved to its new home Santa Anita racetrack. The race is contested on turf, however, the 2021 renewal was switched to the dirt track after wet conditions made the turf track unusable.
