Upgraded back to a Grade I in 2022, the Blue Grass Stakes is a race that carries a $1m purse. Contested over one and one-eighth miles on the dirt (2007-14 it was run on an all-weather surface), the race is restricted to runners who are aged three.

When inaugurated in 1911 the race took place at Lexington until 1926 when it was removed, the race was brought back in 1937 and has been a fixture at Keeneland ever since.
