The Seamen slot has 4 reels and 225 ways to win: the reels have a 3x5x5x3 setup. A winning combination is formed when 3 or 4 matching symbols appear from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel (i.e. reel 1).

When I heard the name, I instantly thought Nolimit City had created a slot game about sperm. Known for their controversial slots (such as Home of the Brave, Kenneth Must Die and Disturbed amongst many others), the Seamen slot is set at sea and has a sailor theme.

The premise is that the White Pearl (the ship) is recruiting the dirtiest sailors around to join the crew. This hands of deck operation requires 6ft tall sailors that have a taste for working for seamen with the ship used to carry some big loads. Yes, there are lots of sexual innuendos which suit the British readers! Humorous and tongue-in-cheek, you hop aboard the White Pearl. The soundtrack is rather upbeat and has some odd noises which are quite suggestive if anything.

On the reels, you will see low-value A, K, Q, J and 10 royals which all appear on treasure maps. The higher-value symbols include the White Pearl ship, a diving helmet, a seaman and a rather menacing shark: the shark symbol pays the most, awarding 0.4 x your total bet for 4 in combination.

Seamen has several special symbols: there is a Dagger through the Heart Wild that substitutes for all paying symbols. Other symbols include Crossed Swords xWays, a Skull Bonus as well as Coconut, Cross and Naval Mine Bombs. More on their functions below.

Win Respins

When you land a winning combination, the Win Respins feature is triggered. The winning symbols disappear to leae space for new symbols to come in. Importantly, the multiplier on winning positions increases by 1 for each respin. On each respin 1 extra Fire Frame is added to position where no Fire Frame exists.

Fire Frames

On every base game spin, Fire Frames are randomly added to reel positions. Each position with a Fire Frame has its multiplie increased by 1: winning symbols with Fire Frames will have their position multipliers increased by 2. Other NLC games such as Mental 2 (99,999 x bet max wins) also use Fire Flames.

xWays

Look out for xWays symbols as they transform into paying symbol. Revealing 2 to 4 symbols of the same kind, the number of ways to win increases. If multiple xWays symbols land on the reels, all xWays symbols will reveal the same symbol to increase your chances of landing big winning combination. The xWays mechanic is used in lots of Nolimit City games such as xWays Hoarder 2 and San Quentin 2: Death Row.  

Bombs

When there are no winning symbols on the reels, Bombs will explode and remove symbols based on their type. Any symbol removed by a Bomb will see its position multiplier increased by 1 (or 2 if there is a Fire Frame on that position). There are 3 types of Bombs to look out for though:

• Coconut Bomb: It removes itself and increases the position multiplier between 5 and 100, in additional to the standard increase.
• Cross Bomb: It removes itself and all regular symbols on its row and reel.
• Naval Mine Bomb: It removes itself and all low-value symbols on the reels.

Molotov Fire

Then you have the Molotov Fire symbol which transforms itself into a Wild symbol and adds Fire Frames to all positions on its reel.

Rigged Spins

When you land 3 Skull Bonus symbols during a base game spin, you’ll trigger the Rigged Spins feature. With 5 free spins awarded, position multipliers are kept during the feature.

Super Rigged Spins

Landing 4 Skull Bonus symbols in a base game spin will see you activate the Super Rigged Spins feature. With 7 free spins won, position multipliers are kept throughout the feature. Additionally, more Fire Frames are awarded per free spin that in the Rigged Spins feature.

Extra Spin

With both free spins features, there is an optional Extra Spin feature. The Seamen slot is a typical Nolimit City release. Cheeky and almost naughty, it’s quite camp in my opinion. This is reinforced by the rather upbeat/techno soundtrack.

In terms of the gameplay, it’s a simple slot which focuses on win respins. With winning position multipliers increasing by 1 for every respin, Fire Frames are added which always have a higher multiplier. xWays symbols can dramatically increase the number of ways to win. Look out Bombs as these can increase position multipliers by up to 100 as well remove symbols on it’s row and reel and all low-value symbols. The Molotov Fire symbol adds more Fire Frames to positions on its reel.

Then you have the 2 free spins features where position multipliers are maintained throughout: in the Super version, more Fire Frames are added on each free spin.

With 20,000 x bet max wins, Seamen isn’t Nolimit City’s best work by any stretch of the imagination but it challenges existing win respins slots and adds NLC’s signature touch to proceedings. I found the xWays, Fire Frames and Bombs combining was the key to landing big wins. It did remind me Duck Hunters (a little).

If you want controversy, Nolimit City offers this is abundance. However, if it’s big win potential you’re after, you’re much better off playing Tombstone Slaughter or Tombstone RIP.
