Sasraku Installed As Favourite For December Showdown

Betting sites have moved to install Tanoa Sasraku as the frontrunner for this year's Turner Prize, with the shortlist for 2026 now confirmed and the countdown to December's ceremony well and truly underway.

As is always the case with Britain's most prestigious contemporary art award, the announcement of the shortlist has sparked plenty of early debate over who deserves to take home the £25,000 top prize.

Sasraku, Kira Freije, Marguerite Humeau and Simeon Barclay make up this year's four nominees, each shortlisted for standout exhibitions and presentations staged across the UK and Europe over the past twelve months.

With the ceremony still a few months away, there's plenty of time for opinion, and the betting, to shift before a winner is confirmed.

Meet The Shortlist

Tanoa Sasraku has been nominated for her solo exhibition Morale Patch, staged at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. The show has been widely praised, and it's that reception that appears to have shaped her position as the current favourite in the market.

Kira Freije picked up her nomination for Unspeak the Chorus, her first major solo exhibition, presented at The Hepworth Wakefield in West Yorkshire. It's a significant moment in her career, and one that has clearly caught the attention of the judging panel.

Marguerite Humeau's nomination comes off the back of Torches, a solo exhibition presented across two major European venues, ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen and HAM Helsinki Art Museum. The international scope of the show sets her apart slightly from the rest of the field.

Simeon Barclay rounds out the shortlist for his performance The Ruin, commissioned by the Roberts Institute of Art. The piece has enjoyed an unusually wide reach for a Turner-nominated work, having also been presented at the ICA, The Hepworth Wakefield and New Art Exchange in Nottingham, meaning judges and audiences alike have had multiple opportunities to engage with it across the country ahead of the shortlist announcement.

How The Odds Stack Up

Current betting has Sasraku out in front, but the market suggests this is far from a foregone conclusion.

Turner Prize 2026 Winner
OddsImplied Probability
Tanoa Sasraku4/660.0%
Kira Freije4/120.0%
Marguerite Humeau5/116.7%
Simeon Barclay10/19.1%

Sasraku's implied probability of 60% marks her out as a fairly short-priced favourite by Turner Prize standards, a reflection of the strong critical response to Morale Patch.

Turner Prize history has shown that outsiders can and do go on to win when a judging panel falls for a bold or unconventional piece.

What the expert says...
Sasraku's the name on everyone's lips right now, and that Morale Patch show has genuinely turned heads, so the 4/6 makes sense on paper. That said, Turner Prize judging panels have a habit of springing a surprise, and Humeau's international reach with Torches shouldn't be underestimated.
