Ben Stokes is now 12/1 to win the Sports Personality of the Year award after England's series win over Pakistan

England cricketer Ben Stokes is now into 12/1 from 25/1 last week to win the Sports Personality of the Year award after England's 3-0 series whitewash over Pakistan.

Bookies have shortened Stokes' odds after England's historic performance, where they became the first visiting team to win three matches in a series in the country.

William Hill have made Stokes 12/1 to win the SPOTY award now with the England captain looking like the only real competition for Beth Mead for the award.

Sports Personality of the Year Winner Odds Probability
Beth Mead 1/33 97.1%
Ben Stokes 12/1 7.7%
Ronnie O'Sullivan
25/1 3.8%
Eve Muirhead 66/1 1.5%
Jake Wightman 66/1 1.5%

Snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan was the favourite for the award back in April when he won his seventh World Championship title.

At the age of 46 he became the oldest World Champion in Crucible history ahead of Ray Reardon who won the title at the age of 45 back in 1978.

Beth Mead remains the heavy favourite at 1/33 to win the SPOTY award on Wednesday night, with Ben Stokes now looking like her main rival for the prestigious trophy. Mead has a 97% chance of being crowned Sports Person of the Year according to the latest odds.

Beth Mead remains the heavy favourite at 1/33 to win the award

England forward Beth Mead remains the big favourite to win the Sports Personality of the Year award with bookies giving her a 97% chance of doing so.

Mead did go as short as 1/80 last week but her odds have come in slightly following Ben Stokes captaincy performance in Pakistan this week.

The six nominees for the Sports Personality of the Year award are:

  • Beth Mead - Football
  • Ben Stokes - Cricket
  • Jessica Gadirova - Gymnastics
  • Ronnie O'Sullivan - Snooker
  • Jake Wightman - Athletics
  • Eve Muirhead - Curling

Harry Kane was the main rival to Mead but his penalty miss for England at the World Cup stopped his chances

Harry Kane was the main betting rival for Beth Mead in the past couple of months with his odds getting as short as 8/1 to win the award during the World Cup.

His penalty miss against France and England's loss in the game meant that he wasn't even nominated to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year.

The show will be taking place on Wednesday 21st December at Media City UK in Salford and as always will be aired live on the BBC.
