Beth Mead is now 1/80 to win the Sports Personality of the Year award with the show taking place next week
England Women's forward Beth Mead is now as short as 1/80 with bookies to win this year's Sports Personality of the Year award following the men's team's departure from the World Cup.
It was expected that a final appearance or even a win for England would have given Mead competition for the award but that was stopped after France's 2-1 win over England last Saturday.
Paddy Power now give Mead a 98.8% chance of winning the award according to their latest betting odds with no real competition expected.
Sports Personality of the Year Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Beth Mead | 1/80 | 98.8% |
Ben Stokes | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Ronnie O'Sullivan
|
33/1 | 2.9% |
Natasha Jonas | 33/1 | 2.9% |
Leon Edwards | 50/1 | 2.0% |
Boxer Natasha Jonas and UFC star Leon Edwards both feature in the betting as outsiders, with Edwards especially having a big year after shockingly becoming Welterweight champion back in August.
Harry Kane was the main rival to Mead but his penalty miss for England last week seemingly stopped his chances
Harry Kane was the main betting rival for Beth Mead in the past few weeks with his odds getting as short as 8/1 to win the award last week.
His penalty miss against France and England's loss in the game meant that he is now as big as 100/1 to be crowned the Sports Personality of the Year.
The nominations for the award are expected at some point this week with the show taking place on Wednesday 21st December at Media City UK in Salford.
Cricketer Ben Stokes and Snooker's Ronnie O'Sullivan are the main rivals in the betting market but big odds
The latest betting odds for the Sports Personality of the Year award make Ben Stokes and Ronnie O'Sullivan the two competitors for Beth Mead.
Ben Stokes has had a huge year in his captaincy of the England test cricket team and their recent test series win away in Pakistan will be fresh on the mind of voters.
Ronnie O'Sullivan was favourite back in April after achieving the feat of equalling Stephen Hendry's 7 World Championship wins at the Crucible Theatre.
At odds of 33/1 though he has a slim chance of winning the award for the first time in his career and 2020 was only the first time he was nominated for the award.
