  • Ladbrokes offer 200/1 that Piers Morgan becomes Prime Minister before 2040
  • The presenter recently hinted at a run in an interview
  • Betting sites now listing political specials on unlikely leadership candidates

Could TV presenter and media personality Piers Morgan really become the UK’s next political disruptor?

That’s the question fuelling one of the more unexpected political betting specials with bookmakers this week, after Ladbrokes priced up the chance of Morgan becoming Prime Minister before 2040 at 200/1.

The longshot market appeared after Morgan hinted at a potential run during a new interview with Saga Magazine, saying he would take a “tough” approach to leadership and “get things done”.

Morgan, 60, referenced public frustration with the state of the NHS, immigration and infrastructure, and floated populist policies like a 1% NHS tax and aggressive trade tariffs against France.

While the probability remains extremely low at just 0.5%, it’s not the first time bookmakers have offered specials on celebrity political bids.

What the expert says...
Piers Morgan is obviously a longshot, but these markets aren’t about likelihood, they’re about conversation and speculation. Trump’s rise in the US showed that populism sells, and if Piers were to make a serious move, we’d likely see those odds slashed.

What Did Piers Morgan Say?

In the Saga Magazine feature, Morgan reflected on the public’s growing disillusionment with mainstream politicians and hinted he could fill that void:

“There has been talk about ‘PM for PM’, Piers Morgan for Prime Minister, why not? There are a lot of people in this country who feel betrayed by successive governments.”

He went on to detail his hypothetical manifesto, including:

  • A 1% NHS tax on all income to directly fund healthcare
  • Punitive 1,000% import tariffs on France unless boat crossings are addressed
  • A pledge to “get tough” on crime, immigration, and bureaucracy

His comments, although delivered partly in jest, have prompted punters and bookmakers alike to take notice.

While there’s no formal indication of a real political campaign, Piers Morgan has consistently voiced strong political opinions and built a massive platform across television, YouTube and social media.

Political Betting Specials: Where To Bet

Ladbrokes are leading the charge when it comes to celebrity political markets and the Piers Morgan 200/1 special is just one of many long-range wagers available across UK politics.
