Online Casino Sites Handed Last-Minute Reprieve as Deposit Limit Deadline Slips

From 30 September 2026, operators must offer gross deposit limits to every customer, reintroduce them where they'd been removed, and use the term "deposit limits" only for gross limits.

  • The UK Gambling Commission has extended the Phase 2 deposit limit compliance deadline from 30 June 2026 to 30 September 2026.
  • The three-month extension followed stakeholder feedback and gives operators additional time for technical development.
  • For players, there's no practical impact in the short term. Every UKGC-licensed casino site already offers deposit limit tools as standard.

Licensed casino sites have been given a three-month extension to meet the second phase of the UK Gambling Commission's updated deposit limit rules.

The original Phase 2 deadline was 30 June 2026. Following stakeholder feedback, the Commission announced at the end of May that operators now have until 30 September 2026 to complete the technical work involved.

Phase 2 builds on the first round of changes, introduced through the Remote Technical Standards in October 2025.

Feedback sessions with OLBG members showed deposit limits are among the most actively used responsible gambling tools, with members saying clear account-level controls are something they rely on.

From 30 September, operators must offer gross deposit limits to every customer, and in some cases reintroduce them where they'd previously been removed.

The naming rules are stricter too. Only gross deposit limits can be called "deposit limits", and they must be displayed with at least equal prominence to other financial limits.

The aim is consistency. The same term should mean the same thing at every licensed site.

For players, very little changes in the short term. The limit-setting tools already in place at UKGC-licensed sites remain fully operational throughout the extension period. There's no gap in protection. If you want to set or lower a deposit limit, every licensed operator will let you do that today.

It's part of the same wave of regulatory change that brought in affordability checks and the wider Gambling Act review reforms.

The direction of travel hasn't changed. More consistency, more transparency, stronger obligations on operators.

OLBG's Casino Content Manager David Coleman believes the extension is sensible, but shouldn't change what players do right now.

He said: "The tools most players need are already there. If you use casino sites regularly, it's worth checking what limits you've got set and making sure you're comfortable with them.

"Phase 2 is really about clarity. When every site has to call the same limit by the same name and show it just as prominently as everything else, players know exactly what they're setting.

"It's one of those changes where the delay doesn't matter much to players. But the outcome, when it arrives, will."

My reviews of Los Vegas, Midnite and MrQ are among those with clear, easy-to-use deposit limit tools.
