Betting Sites React as Plymouth Managerial Search Begins

Plymouth Argyle's hunt for a new manager is officially on after the club confirmed on Wednesday that current boss Miron Muslic has been granted permission to speak with an unnamed 2. Bundesliga club, widely reported to be Schalke 04.

The statement read: “We have reluctantly allowed Miron Muslic to open talks with a 2. Bundesliga side, after he expressed his desire to speak with them. We are frustrated by this decision, having implemented clear structures, processes and personnel to aid Miron and his staff.”

With Muslic now seemingly Bundesliga-bound, betting sites haven’t wasted time opening a market for his replacement.

Des Buckingham is the early favourite with BetVictor, priced at 4/1 to take the reins at Home Park.

Big names feature in the market to be the next Plymouth Argyle manager with the full market below:

What the expert says...
Des Buckingham heading the market hints at a preference for progressive, modern coaches, while names like Wagner and Evatt bring proven EFL experience. The inclusion of Leighton Baines suggests betting sites are factoring in left-field options too.

Club Faces Another Rebuild as Muslic Era Ends Early

Muslic’s exit comes after a brief but eventful stint in Devon, having only joined the club in late 2024.

Plymouth’s hierarchy will be disappointed by the sudden departure, particularly after the structural support outlined in their statement.

Attention now turns to his successor and Des Buckingham’s profile as a progressive coach, most recently at Oxford United and previously in New Zealand and India, appears to have attracted early market support.

Meanwhile, David Wagner, a seasoned campaigner in both England and Germany, sits at 6/1, bringing a different kind of pedigree.

The trio of Leighton Baines, Ian Evatt, and Luke Williams are locked together at 8/1.

All three are intriguing names, with Baines seen as a rising star in the coaching ranks and Williams impressing during his time at Swansea and Notts County.
