I break betting odds news as it happens, so youโ€™re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Cillian Murphy leads the next Bond villain market at 2/1
  • Idris Elba's presence at 4/1 has generated enormous discussion
  • The shortlist also features Barry Keoghan and Oscar Isaac at 7/1, Rosamund Pike at 9/1

The Villain Market Opens And the Most Interesting Name Is Not the Favourite

Bond 26 is in the early stages of creation. Auditions for the lead role of James Bond are taking place, overseen by casting director Nina Gold whose credits include Game of Thrones, The Crown and five Star Wars films.

But while the race for 007 continues, with Callum Turner the 15/8 market leader and Tom Francis the exciting new 10/3 contender following Variety's confirmation of his audition, as reported in our latest Bond casting odds piece, attention has now turned to who will face Bond across the interrogation table.

Betting sites have opened a villain market that reflects both the calibre of talent Amazon MGM and Denis Villeneuve will be targeting and one genuinely extraordinary subplot.

Cillian Murphy leads the market at 2/1. That is the straightforward story. But the more compelling one is the name directly beneath him in Idris Elba at 4/1.

Idris Elba: From Bond Hopeful to Bond Villain?

The narrative arc of Idris Elba's relationship with the Bond franchise is one of the most fascinating in recent entertainment history.

For the best part of a decade, the Luther and The Wire star was the most discussed potential 007.

His interview comments earlier this month represented the most definitive personal statement he had made on the subject as they were candid, clear and, for many observers, final.

He acknowledged the commercial reality with admirable honesty: certain global markets simply would not embrace a Black Bond.

It felt like a door closing. And then the villain market opened with him at 4/1, and suddenly that door appears to be very much ajar again.

Murphy's Menace, Pike's History and the Rest of a Remarkable Shortlist

Cillian Murphy at 2/1 is the market's logical frontrunner, and the case for him is almost self-evident to anyone who has watched his work across the past decade.

His portrayal of Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's 2023 film earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor and confirmed what Peaky Blinders had long suggested: that Murphy is capable of projecting controlled, quiet menace with a specificity and stillness that few actors can match.

Barry Keoghan at 7/1 is the left-field pick that most excites the market's more creative observers.

Rosamund Pike at 9/1 is the most historically significant name in the market, not because she has not been in a Bond film before (she played Miranda Frost in Die Another Day in 2002), but because a female main villain in the Bond 26 era, with a director of Villeneuve's credentials and a screenwriter of Knight's sophistication, would represent a genuinely evolved franchise choice.

Where To Bet on the Next Bond Villain

With Bond 26 auditions underway and casting announcements expected before the end of 2026, the villain market is likely to move significantly once names begin to firm up.

A wide range of bookmakers offer entertainment casting specials, with new customers often finding free bets available.
