Connolly Out in Front

Connolly’s long political career and strong reputation in Galway West have helped push her to the top of the market.

While other names are expected to declare in the coming weeks, her position as the only official candidate at this stage gives her a natural advantage in the early betting.

Heather Humphreys is Minister for Rural and Community Development is expected to announce her candidacy soon and is Connolly’s closest challenger.

What the expert says...
Heather Humphreys represents the most immediate threat to Connolly and Sean Kelly’s potential candidacy could also change the shape of the race. As for Conor McGregor, his declaration has generated significant publicity, but at 40/1 the odds suggest bookmakers remain unconvinced he can gather the necessary nominations to make the ballot.

McGregor Seeking Nomination

Meanwhile, MMA fighter Conor McGregor has shaken up the conversation around the election after confirming his intention to seek a nomination.

Despite a lengthy post on X calling for reforms to the nomination process, bookmakers still rate him as an outsider at 40/1.

Star Sports traders believe the likelihood of McGregor receiving sufficient political backing remains slim but public interest in his candidacy could generate headlines throughout the campaign.

Betting Outlook

With the campaign not yet officially underway, bookmakers expect Connolly and Humphreys to dominate the early market.

However, as more candidates confirm their intentions, odds could shift dramatically in the coming months.

For punters, the Next Irish President market offers a mix of seasoned political figures and the wildcard candidacy and odds can be found on some of the top political betting sites.
