Loyle Carner clear favourite at 9/4 to win the Mercury Prize on Thursday evening

This year's Mercury Prize is set to take place this week on Thursday 7 September and bookmakers have a clear market on who they think will win the award now.

Loyle Carner is the clear favourite at the top of the betting market at 9/4 with the odds now suggesting there's a 30% chance of him winning the Mercury Prize for the first time.

Carner is nominated for his album 'hugo' with odds of 9/4 to win the Mercury Prize with William Hill putting him ahead of the other contenders such as Jockstrap and Young Fathers.

Fred Again was the joint favourite for the award this year for a lengthy period but his odds have since seen him drift out from 7/2 to 5/1 to win the award.

Jockstrap are the latest market movers with their odds coming down to 3/1

Rising stars Jockstrap have been the biggest market movers to win the Mercury Prize in the past week with their odds slowly tumbling down to the 3/1 second favourites.

Their debut album, 'I Love You, Jennifer B', is nominated for the Mercury Prize and the London duo have gone from 6/1 to 3/1 in the betting market in the past few weeks.

Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye make up Jockstrap and they will be buzzing with excitement to be nominated for the Mercury Prize this year.

The 2023 Mercury Prize award show takes place this Thursday 7 September at the Eventim Apollo in London.

The show will see nominees for the award perform on the night with the odd recorded performance airing for the acts who can't attend on the night.
