Atlanta FaZe lead the betting odds to win the Call of Duty Esports World Cup this weekend

This weekend sees Call of Duty take centre stage for its part in the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with one of the biggest prize pools we've seen in the game's history.

16 teams will scrap against each other for the prize pool of $1.8m with the winner taking home $600,000 and betting sites are now offering odds on who will be the winner.

Atlanta FaZe lost in Losers Round 2 in the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend and that form makes it a shock that they head into this event as the betting favourites.

Bookies though feel that they'll turn that form right around and place FaZe as the 2/1 favourites to win the final event of Modern Warfare 3's competitive cycle this weekend.

Bet365's latest betting market gives an implied probability of 33.3% that FaZe are crowned the winners ahead of OpTic and Cloud9 respectively, with the best esports betting sites offering odds on the event.

What the expert says...

Despite having a tough event at the CDL Championships last month, Atlanta FaZe go into the World Cup this week as the betting favourites with Champs winners OpTic Gaming second favourites behind them at 2/1!

OpTic Gaming won the Call of Duty League and sit as second favourites here

OpTic Gaming go into this event on a high after winning the Call of Duty League Championships last month but they sit as second favourites to win this event according to the latest odds.

Complacency is always a big question mark when it comes to OpTic and you truly do not know which side of the team you'll see turn up, but there's no better form to go off than the Green Wall have.

OpTic beat New York Subliners in the CDL Champs Grand Final and the Subliners go into this event as Cloud9 after announcing in June that they had been acquired by the C9 brand.

16 teams will be competing against each other in Saudi Arabia

The Call of Duty Esports World Cup event is set to be massive with 16 teams going against each other to find out who is the best in the world.

It's not just MW3 that is showcased at the World Cup, with Warzone also being played earlier in the tournament as Team Falcons ran out as winners.

The full list of the 16 teams competing in this event are as follows:

  • Optic Gaming
  • Cloud9
  • Toronto Ultra
  • 100 Thieves
  • Atlanta Faze
  • Team Heretics
  • Seattle Surge
  • Las Vegas Legion
  • Carolina Royal Ravens
  • G2 Esports
  • Boston Breach
  • Lore Gaming
  • Stallions
  • Gentle Mates
  • Omit Brooklyn
  • Team Falcons
