Andrew Miller Favourite Ahead of November 10 Announcement

The Booker Prize 2025 shortlist has been unveiled, with bookmakers installing Andrew Miller’s The Land in Winter as the early favourite to claim this year’s £50,000 literary award.

Chosen from 153 submissions, the shortlist was announced by a judging panel chaired by 1993 Booker winner Roddy Doyle.

He is joined by fellow judges Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Power, and Kiley Reid, forming one of the most high-profile juries in recent years.

This year’s selection highlights a diverse mix of literary voices from around the world, with six authors vying for the most prestigious fiction prize in English literature.

Ladbrokes have full odds on the six candidates with Andrew Miller given a 33.3% chance of being selected for the prize.

Favourites Lead Strong Line-Up

Miller, a former Booker Prize winner for Pure (2011), returns as favourite with The Land in Winter which is a sweeping historical novel praised for its emotional intensity and elegant prose.

The book’s early critical acclaim and Miller’s previous success have made it a strong early frontrunner.

Desai, who won the Booker in 2006 for The Inheritance of Loss, returns with a poignant cross-generational narrative exploring isolation and belonging.

The novel’s themes of migration and connection have resonated strongly with both critics and readers.

Her growing support has seen her odds shorten to 5/2, just behind Miller, setting up a potential head-to-head between two former Booker champions.

What the expert says...
The early betting suggests this is Miller’s to lose, but Desai’s novel has real emotional weight. If the judges value global themes and resonance, Desai could easily flip the market before the ceremony.
